"The Old Leather Man", "The Leather Man" and after he died was called The Leatherman and The Old Leatherman also OLM & LM

[edit]

When he was alive he was called The Old Leather Mam, The Leather Man after he died he was at times called The Leatherman or The old Leatherman, also OLM & LM.

He seems to be called the "Old Leatherman" in quite a few texts. I propose a page move, which would also take care of the semi-POV "vagabond" deliniator. Dyfsunctional 01:14, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Real Name

[edit]

The article says that his identity was unknown and yet Reference 1 is a US Gov. Ran Website listing that as his real name. How is there any debate? 65.24.55.197 (talk) 04:35, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the New York Times, December 5, 1887, "One Hermit Gets A Bath" article, page five, his real name was Jabez Hurd. Also, all contemporary press accounts have him as "Leather Man" instead of "Leatherman." Anyway, that article gives a complete history of his background. Another NY Times article, (p. 3, Dec 8, 1888) has another background story, however this time his name is given as Jules Bourglay. The obituary (Mar. 25, 1889, p. 2) claims "no one was ever able to find out his name." The following day's paper has the background story again, as well as further illumiating details of his life and death. --67.165.140.73 (talk) 07:46, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The name Jules Bourglay comes from a newspaper which carried what the author who combined being a short story writer with being a reporter acknowledged was a fictional account.RichardBond (talk) 16:16, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From the Popular Media section it had the line "See Ed McKeon's excellent blog, which includes valuable Leatherman material".

Wikipedia certainly should not be telling its readers what blogs are definitively 'excellent' or not so I took that word out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.91.75.63 (talk) 21:06, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grave

[edit]

Just removed a vandalism which had been on the page since May 13, 2007. The same vandal struck other pages that same day, and two of his entries also still survived. The name used is probably the name of a friend, see his first entry where he removes his own name from a vandaled page. So, check new entries for things like this. Should the part further down about his exhumation and reburial be removed, as it simply repeats what is said in this section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.96.222.178 (talk) 14:17, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed links to this site once and they have been reinstated.

I am removing them again: the site is a blog, and is (as far as I can see) entirely published buy one person -- therefore it is not considered a reliable source as per WP:RS. Arthur Holland (talk) 12:30, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
