The previous content on this article contained false information. I am simply trying to correct that information. I will edit the content that I placed that could be considered "propaganda" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hdheist (talkcontribs) 19:56, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please review and comment on any material you would consider "propagada" or advertising. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.49.181.128 (talk) 20:10, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As reviewing admin, I see that almost all the article is copied from copyvio for http://www.lds.org/humanitarianservices/ and its subpages and its subpages, and elsewhere on LDS sites. You can either give us a license for the material, rewrite it, or remove it. I removed some of the most obvious. DGG (talk) 00:47, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

LDS Philanthropies should be merged into LDS Humanitarian Services, with the content of that article constituting a section in LDS Humanitarian Services, and LDS Philanthropies being converted into a redirect to LDS Humanitarian Services.

LDS Philanthropies is just a fundraising arm of LDS Humanitarian Services and it seems unlikely that the LDS Philanthropies stub can be expanded too much more than it already is. Also including the content in the larger article will hopefully lead to clearing up the confusion between the roles of the two interrelated entities. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 16:58, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. This is material that needs to all be in one article. That will also make it much easier to reference from other articles. -- Adjwilley (talk) 14:33, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. LDS Humanitarian Services is part of the Welfare Services department and is involved in humanitarian aide throughout the world, particularly in disaster areas. LDS Philanthropies (formerly LDS Foundation) is its own department focused on obtaining donations for schools in the Church Educational System, and other entities per the description in the footer on their website. Even if LDS Philanthropies raises monies for LDS Humanitarian Services, it should be on its own page and not a subset of Humanitarian Services, BYU, or any of the other entities it raises money for. Sections on these pages can link to the LDSP article which needs to be expanded from a stub.—GreenwoodKL (t, c) 18:16, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also disagree and feel the article should be left separate. —Eustress talk 21:41, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Name and Reorganization - Latter-day Saint Charities

[edit]

Since 2019 when the LDS church renamed LDS Charities to Latter-day Saint Charities I haven't seen any more references to LDS Humanitarian Services.[1] You can see this change reflected on the church newsroom where 2021 covid donations were reported in the name of Latter-day Saint Charities. [2] The official church charity website also it titled "Humanitarian Aid (Latter-day Saint Charities)".[3]

Now, there is also the Philanthropies page. However, a FAQ on the official website states that "What is Philanthropies? - Philanthropies, a department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is responsible for philanthropic contributions to the Church and its affiliated programs and institutions including: Brigham Young University | BYU–Hawaii | BYU–Idaho | BYU–Pathway Worldwide | Ensign College | Humanitarian Services | Family History/FamilySearch | Missionary Fund | Church History | Tabernacle Choir"[4]

So I vote that funding through Philanthropies should be added as a heading to this page. Interestingly, the LDS Church chooses to group reports on both the educational services and humanitarian services together on their charity reports [5] and I feel that keeping them together would eliminate confusion for people who aren't familiar with the organizational structure within the church.

It's come to my attention that at the moment, LDS Charities redirects to LDS Philanthropies, rather than Latter-day Saint Charities. It certainly feels like that sort of problem is an example of the drawbacks of having 2 separate pages.
