Needs revision[edit]

This article conflates biblical narrative and history and needs to be revised to make clear the difference. Will be working on that. Jytdog (talk) 17:01, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jesus King Of The Jews[edit]

Shouldn’t Jesus Be Considered King Of The Jews as he Was In The Bible Considered King Of The Jews When he was alive Jed Mek 25 (talk) 01:38, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And which reliable source confirms a reign for him, or a claim to the throne? Dimadick (talk) 06:43, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Template[edit]

I recently used this template on an article of my own, and wondered if it would be of interest for use on this page. I believe it provides more ample/direct access to the related categories than the one currently at the bottom of the page.

Template:Kings of Israel and Template:Kings of Judah[edit]

There is a discussion @WP:BIBLE#Templates:Kings_of_Israel_(Samaria)_and_Kings_of_Judah to possibly remove Template:Kings of Israel and Template:Kings of Judah completely from articles. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 23:20, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jehoiachin's reign[edit]

Why does it say Jehoiachin reigned for 3 months and 10 days? In 2 Kings 12, it says "in the eighth year of his reign" so doesn't that imply it should be at least 8 years? Nikolaih☎️📖 02:46, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delete the table of kings[edit]

Illegible. Needs creating as a wiki table, not an image Riskit 4 a biskit (talk) 02:03, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Restructured by states[edit]

Makes more sense.

Unless it's proven by RS that the Hasmoneans and Herodians used a certain name for their respective kingdoms, we're talking dynasties. Ancient state names mostly imposed on them by historiography. Arminden (talk) 09:35, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Possible family tree errors and suggestions for improvement[edit]

The family tree depicts Jehoaddan as being the daughter of Jehoiada and Jehosheba, which would make her a maternal cousin to Joash (although the Bible never states that Jehosheba was Athaliah's daughter). There is no Biblical evidence supporting the fact that Jehoaddan was the daughter of the aforementioned couple, and there is no evidence that states that she was a direct granddaughter of Athaliah as well. Also, where does it say that Amoz was the son of Joash? The family tree shows the prophet Isaiah as being the grandfather of Manasseh through his daughter Hephzibah, except Hephzibah was never Isaiah's daughter and Isaiah has no connection to the royal line. I'm pretty sure some of these extra familial connections derive from rabbinical literature, but these should be removed if we are citing directly from the Bible to create the family tree. I'm not sure how to edit the family tree, but some changes I would make are:

  1. Remove green color box and reign length from Maacah, she was a queen mother, not queen regnant, so her box color should be white to indicate that.
  2. Remove Athaliah from being the daughter of Jezebel because it cannot be proven that she was the daughter of Jezebel, unlike her half brothers Ahaziah and Jehoram, who were confirmed to be sons of Jezebel.
  3. Likewise, make Jehosheba only the daughter of Jehoram of Judah, not Athaliah.
  4. Remove Jehoaddan's parentage, she was never stated to have been Jehoiada and Jehosheba's daughter.
  5. Delete Amoz and Isaiah completely from the tree unless there is a consensus to also source from rabbinical literature (Midrash, Talmud).
  6. Josiah's wives Hamutal (the mother of Jehoahaz and Zedekiah) and Zebidah (the mother of Jehoiakim) could possibly be added to the tree.

It would be extremely helpful if another user could help me out and add these suggestions as I don't know how to edit the family tree at all.
