"2022 Police Department <recent police/town manager news verification required>"[edit]

What does "2022 Police Department <recent police/town manager news verification required>" mean? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 01:18, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you're aware, this is now hitting national news. Just do a search for "Kenly North Carolina" and you'll be deluged with articles about this. Apparently when the entire police department would rather quit than work with a new city manager... well... I found enough sources (by now I've included ten) but didn't include the click-bait. Thank you for your contributions, and making it clear that this certainly is something that needed to be added in here, and eventually was. SoCalGoetz (talk) 03:03, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removal[edit]

Why was this removed?

Kenly made news on July 21, 2022, when the entire police force and other town administrators resigned en masse.[1]

I added it back in with a little more info as more sources became available, and want to thank you for not parroting the click-bait "after a black town manager was hired" within this Encyclopedia. One assumes from that headline the police force was racist, but correlation does not equal causation, and she is a lot more than just black. She is also *arguably* a micro-manager (that is well documented within several of the links i included). That wording "after a black woman" might be okay when it's a news article they're trying to get you to read (it is true, Justine Jones is black, and the resignations went into effect EXACTLY two months after her start date, June 2), but arguably Wikipedia wouldn't have said, "after a white male was hired," so it probably shouldn't in this case either. Good job! CNN, the first news site to do an entire exposé, included that the previous Town Manager was also black. SoCalGoetz (talk) 02:55, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Competition[edit]

It's common for small cities to have a Sheriff's substation to save on costs (currently 37% of Kenly's budget) Town Manager Justine Jones arguably gets the best of both worlds: Kenly is straddled between two Counties (Wilson and Johnston), both of whose Sheriff's Offices can now compete for the contract 👏 (I'm allowed a short commentary in "talk" after doing all that work for free, right?) Slander[edit]

You know, there's a lot of trash talking about the Town Manager, and then it appears as if MY citations concur. They do not. Please delete the new contributions by the anonymous user, or my citations. I refuse to be associated with this garbage. SoCalGoetz (talk) 05:44, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I'm sorry, I read it in its entirety. I somehow only read one sentence I didn't like. But it tells both sides and I don't believe (as one who read about a dozen articles) that there are any inaccuracies. Mine was short and sweet, this one is more at depth. Unsettling facts on both sides that list it fairly. I was purposefully vague; this looks like the official report now that I read the whole paragraph rather than just feeling offended my portion was touched. My apologies. I am honored to have contributed to this project. The anonymous user did excellent work. SoCalGoetz (talk) 05:53, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I hope I helped keep the peace during the transition and am glad to see the final report. SoCalGoetz (talk) 05:55, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow, the scardy cats on the Council fired her over it. Not surprising. Assertive black women aren't regarded very highly in our culture. SoCalGoetz (talk) 05:58, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
