Relation to "National Federation of Community Broadcasters"

[edit]

What's the relationship between Pacifica and the National Federation of Community Broadcasters?

Two of the three founders of this National Federation are Pacifica Affiliates (WORT and KGNU).

I think it would be useful for each to mention the other, explaining the relationship. Someone surely knows. I don't, and I don't know how to find it. DavidMCEddy (talk) 00:15, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DavidMCEddy:: Conceptually, Pacifica Radio is a content provider/distribution service to non-profit stations while NFCB is an industry trade organization representing community stations (that may or may not carry Pacifica.) Maybe stations carrying Pacifica tend to be more activist oriented, but I don't know of a specific connection. (If you post on the Pacifica article, you might get more feedback though; I'm the only one hanging out category talk pages!) RevelationDirect (talk) 02:23, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Have Wikipedia articles for Pacifia stations and affiliates been deleted?

[edit]

User:Tdl1060 just "removed links to pages that redirect here". Has some team of hyperactive editors been deleting Wikipedia articles for the stations targeted with the recent edits by User:Tdl1060?

I wonder if some of the people who follow this article should make sure some of the "watchers" here are also watching all the Wikipedia articles for stations that still have article, to protect them from mysterious deletions by editors who think that Wikipedia has too many articles on organizations that they don't think are sufficiently "notable".

Similarly, what do people think about organizing a Wikiproject Community Radio Stations, similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Newspapers? DavidMCEddy (talk) 22:56, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The articles in question lacked references to reliable secondary sources. This is following the imposition of stricter standards for radio station articles than had been in the past, when most of these articles were originally created. The same as has been done for 3ABN affiliates, regional NPR networks, and other networks with many stations that do not have significant independent coverage. Most articles for Pacifica affiliates remain. Perhaps they should redirect to List of community radio stations in the United States though, since they air non-Pacifica content as well?--Tdl1060 (talk) 23:38, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tdl1060 and DavidMCEddy: Feedback:
  • I have no problem with notability/verfiability as long as all of the affiliate listings can be confirmed via the primary source, Pacifica Foundation. I don't like the idea of redlinking all the non-WP stations.
  • I disagree with the idea of redirecting to the List of Community Radio Stations. This listing should be confined to stations that have WP pages in keeping with GNG.
  • I think Wikiproject Community Radio Stations is a great idea. Keep in mind that community radio is a worldwide movement so the project would have to be defined as related to either U.S. stations or the global movement.
Thanks for both your contributions to radio topics. Allreet (talk) 18:31, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
