Notes from the subject of the article, Joseph Hanlon:

I am a Senior Lecturer in Development and Conflict Resolution at the Open University (the largest university in the UK), Milton Keynes, England. The official Open Univeristy webpage for me is http://dpp.open.ac.uk/people/hanlon.htm

The Open University says I am "the most cited social science academic" on Mozambique. Putting "Hanlon Mozambique" into Google Scholar gives 1800 hits, nearly all me. In normal Google there are more than 50,000 hits, about half me. I have written the following books on Mozambique: (2008, forthcoming, November) Do more bicycles equal development in Mozambique?, James Currey, Oxford. (2008) Há mais bicicletas - mas há desenvolvimento?, Missanga, Maputo, Mozambique (2001) Mozambique and the Great Flood of 2000, co-authored with Frances Christie, pp176, James Currey, Oxford and Indiana University Press, Indiana, USA. ISBN 0253339782. Also published in Japanese 2002. (2001) Moçambique e as Grandes Cheias de 2000, Livaria Universitária Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo, Mozambique. (1996) Peace without profit: How the IMF blocks rebuilding in Mozambique, James Currey, Oxford (1991) Mozambique: Who calls the shots, James Currey, London (1986) Mozambique: The revolution under fire, Zed, London

Two of your external links in the Mozambique article are to my work. One is to the Mozambique Political Process Bulletin, which I edit, and the other is to my special Open University website on Mozambique, http://www.open.ac.uk/technology/mozambique/

I am also active in several other areas: + Civil war. I am the principal author of the Open University course TU875: War, Intervention and Development. (See the OU website on me for this.) The textbook was published as (2005) Civil War, Civil Peace, co-edited with Helen Yanacopulos, James Currey, Oxford; Ohio University Press; Open University Press, Milton Keynes. ISBN 0-85255-895-3. + Developing country debt and illegitimate debt. I was policy officer for the Jubilee 2000 campaign to cancel poor country debt, and have developed and been widely cited on the concept of "illegitimate debt". There are two citations on my Wiki entry and more on my OU web page. + Sanctions. I was the coordinator the Commonwealth Independent Expert Study on Sanctions Against South Africa 1987-89. The report was published as (1989) South Africa: The Sanctions Report, Penguin, London.
