Basketball Player Should Take Precedence[edit]

I think this band is way more obscure than Johnny Flynn the basketball player. He is one of the best point guards in college basketball and is a top prospect for the next NBA draft to be held this summer. When Johnny Flynn is input into wikipedia it should redirect to his article and not this one.

The correct spelling of the basketball player player appears to be Jonny, though, and Johnny Flynn is a successful actor. So I believe the current arrangement is correct as far as that goes. There is a slight problem with him having two different wiki pages though, which I intend to deal with in a new section. Five Mile Walk (talk) 23:02, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Musical Career Paused[edit]

where does the information about him pausing his musical career come from? ~munkhbat.

I can't see that, so I assume it's been edited out. He is appearing in The Heretic at the moment, so it's possible that he has paused the musical career to concentrate on acting for a while.Five Mile Walk (talk) 23:22, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

https://twitter.com/JohnnyFlynnHQ/status/294782056389550080 don't think it has been paused... Sweetlyurged (talk) 13:46, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two Pages - Merger Proposal[edit]

This actor/musician seems to have two pages - one as Johnny Flynn, another as Joe Flynn. It appears that the Johnny Flynn one was initially set up to refer to the Folk Rock band, but the water has been muddied by Flynn appearing as Johnny Flynn in at least one play - The Heretic. I'm not fluent in wikipedia procedure, but I would have thought that it would be appropriate for the two pages to be merged as one, with a redirect for the other name. Supporting Merge[edit]

I agree that Joe Flynn and Johnny Flynn should be merged. It's the same person and in the interviews cited and others with major UK newspapers, he discussed both his acting and music, suggesting that he is not known in two distinct respects for these artistic mediums. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.194.18.111 (talk) 15:58, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I also agree with the merge. Johnny Flynn and Joe Flynn are aliases of the same person. You could merge them into one article, which begins: Johnny Flynn, also known by stage name Joe Flynn, is an English musician, actor, poet, and songwriter. He is the frontman to Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit, an English folk rock band signed to Transgressive Records." Nstanton0505 (talk) 05:21, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly SUPPORT the merge of the of the Joe Flynn and Johnny Flynn articles – the current arrangement makes no sense at all .. and still wouldn't even if Joe wasn't on record as saying that he doesn't view his career in terms of separate boxes (I suspect that all that has happened is that there was at some point another active actor/ Equity member working in the UK under the name of Johnny Flynn). HOWEVER, I do feel very strongly that 'Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit' should either become an article in its own right, or at the very least become a lesser part of the main article; because 'Johnny Flynn' is not synonymous with 'Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit. Although Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit, which is a live performance and touring band, is fronted by Johnny Flynn - and although the members of that live band, including his own sister, contribute to the albums released in his name - it is him, rather than the band, that has the recording contract and he performs independently from the band as Johnny Flynn as both a solo artist and with other musicians. It is perhaps also worth mentioning that he is the son of Eric Flynn and (half) brother of the actors Daniel Flynn and actor Jerome Flynn (of Soldier Soldier and Robson & Jerome fame). navlebeskuelse (talk) 10:09, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No brainer to merge these articles. Donmike10 (talk) 01:14, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Support. Two separate biographical pages for one person makes no sense. I notice that people have been agreeing with this merge for more than a year, yet no-one has done anything. Mick gold (talk) 15:16, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Support. Make that two years.45ossington (talk) 12:42, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree This article is about the band (it may have changed during the debate and I've just renamed it to reflect the article). There is plenty of precedent for having articles about bands and also about bandmembers, especially where a bandmember does unrelated notable things.
