Creepy Moment

[edit]

Motson's reading of the names of the 'historic' English penalty missers as the final whistle approached in the England Portugal 2006 World Cup quarter final extra time was the creepiest touch in a long career. Shame on you, Jock Motson. Should this fact be entered into the full article ?Pliny 21:12, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

>No, firstly its POV and second of all the implication that John Motson could sympathise with anybody but England is beyond stupid--Freshko 16:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes

[edit]

Are as much a part of an article on Motty as they are part of an article on Yogi Berra. No one reads wikiquote. What is it? Where is it? Not all articles should be made boring. 62.64.226.229 23:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The look at that moment

[edit]

John Motson didn't repeat that quote in December, it was Ian Darke for Sky Sports.

Voice commentry for footy games?

[edit]

I was wondering if we should add a list of the football games he has added commentary too such as FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 ect? Govvy (talk) 14:08, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is more famous in the Fifa games than he is on tv! He's contributed hundreds of hours of work to them. This article is terrible for not elaborating on it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.251.229.240 (talk) 16:32, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Early years - in London?

[edit]

I don't get this, about him being born in Salford. I met Motty in the mid-90s in a wine bar off Carnaby St., London. We struck up a conversation when I told him one of my relatives was Ronny Radford. He asked me where I lived, and he was amazed when I told him Hither Green, London, SE13. He said he was born in Slaithwaite Road, SE13, and later attended Ennersdale Road Primary school (now closed). He expressed some sadness that the school had not invited him to visit after he became famous, as other places had. Both SE13 locations are within a few minutes walk of where I now live. This kind of coincidence is not the sort of thing I'm likely to forget, but I've not seen these details confirmed anywhere else. Rikstar (talk) 06:33, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not born in 1802

[edit]

The article says he was born in 1802... which is clearly false. Anyone know the real date? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.88.184 (talk) 23:22, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction - place of birth

[edit]

I'm sure Motty wasn't born in Salford and Coventry. The article states both. Which one is it? Bazonka (talk) 20:57, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

where the hell was John Motson born?! There are two theories on his article!!! Please sort it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asserghozlan (talkcontribs) 20:34, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two articles show that he was born in Manchester: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/2782904/Fame-and-fortune-John-Motson.html http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/john-motson-you-ask-the-questions-6162123.html70.238.221.20 (talk) 10:53, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

'Vandalisim' in article!

[edit]

Sources/citations are linked to (mentioned on this 'talk' page also) that show Motson was born in Manchester, yet someone is insistent on changing it to 'Salford'- *with no citations*. 70.238.222.171 (talk) 10:18, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unexplained changes

[edit]

I have reverted the changes made today as they do not appear to be sourced and does remove info in the article without valid reasons given. I'm open to hearing why but without sourcing these changes probably shouldn't be made. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 16:30, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The coat

[edit]

I am amazed that this article does not seem to mention the sheepskin coat. It must be as well-known as its wearer!

There is also a reference to it: i.e. The Man Behind the Sheepskin near the end of the article and there are two pictures of Motson here, both showing him in said coat.

I think it should be mentioned.
