I Spy Forum

[edit]

(Vandalism resulted in truncation) has been listed as an "external link" on Wikipedia since I believe 2005 for both the "I SPY" (TV Show category) and on the "ROBERT CULP" pages.

I SPY Forum - http://www.network54.com/Forum/172251/ (I Spy Forum - TV (Robert Culp, Bill Cosby)

Our Forum is the premiere site for all relevant and current news and discussion topics relating to the subject of the 60s TV Show "I SPY." Our site has been active daily for the past 8 years. We have been consultants on the new "I SPY" Book and on the "I SPY" CD and a particpant in SPYFEST. We are NOT a typical message board, but the active participant in keeping the spirit of "I SPY" alive. We are in touch with production staff, writers, etc. from the show. Our site (as an "external link" was deleted the other day on both pages - I thought this was done in error and re-added our site, to find that it is gone again today. PLEASE check our site!!! Please do not dismiss the valuable and relevant content we offer because the word FORUM is in our title. We should be included on Wikipedia, as we are the most current and actively contributing site for information on "I SPY" available out there - and it's a disservice to your readers, if we are not included on these two pages. We've been a part of these Wikipedia pages for so long, please help us get re-instated. Thank you, Tatia Loring -- Tatia Loring 04:03, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tatia. ST47 deleted the link. I asked ST47 to provide some detail of his/her actions on the I Spy talk page. Please provide your request on the I Spy talk page as well since that is where such a discussion would best take place. If you need further assistance, please contact me on my talk page -- Jreferee 07:09, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Good morning Tatia, I'm sorry I couldn't answer you earlier. I removed the link to network54, along with many others, per our policies on external links. That policy says that, among other things, links to social networking sites or discussion forums are not permitted, because they aren't reliable sources for information and because they contribute very little additional information to an article. Please remember that out primary purpose is to write an encyclopedia, and then to ensure that that encyclopedia is factual - Wikipedia is not a directory of links. I hope this explains the removal, but if not, you can ask on my talk page for more explanation. Thanks! ST47Talk 10:44, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response ST47, but please re-read the following. Our I SPY FORUM is NOT a casual message board. We are the main source for all current and relevant news and information about this 60s show. We have been around for 8 years, and have served as consultants on the new I SPY Book and on the I SPY CD. We are in touch with many of the production staff of the program. AND we HAVE BEEN linked to this Wikipedia page (and the one for ROBERT CULP) since 2005!! "IF" Wikipedia's purpose is to help disseminate infomation about a topic, then our site should definitely be included for information on "I SPY" .... Thank you and your help is appreciated!! Proposal to add link to article

[edit]

The link I Spy Forum - TV major fansite was deleted from the article. Item 1 of Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links states that "on articles about topics with many fansites, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate, marking the link as such." If a concensus desires that I Spy Forum - TV major fansite be the one major fansite added to the article, then it may be added to the article as I Spy Forum - TV major fansite.[1] An Approve reasoning means that you desire to add the "I Spy Forum" link to the external link section of the article. A Disapprove reasoning means that you desire to keep the "I Spy Forum" link out of the external link section of the article.

  • Neutral towards the addition of the "I Spy Forum" link to the article. -- Jreferee 21:26, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Abstain There may be other, more notable, websites that are yet to arrive. Nol888(Talk)(Review me please) 21:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disapprove A discussion site is not relevant. A fansite != discussion site. --TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 03:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I hope this is the proper place to add this - as I am new here and not well-versed in Wikipedia protocol ... I felt it important to add that the flexibility of our Forum FORMAT allows us to be responsive in posting current and relevant information about the television show "I SPY" ... besides being a fansite and discussion arena. There was a comment that "other websites that may yet arrive." As I mentioned, we have been the premiere site and resource for informaton on the I SPY Television show for the past 8 years (and been linked to the page on Wikipedia since 2005). We have been consulted on several I SPY projects, including the new I SPY Book, The "SPY-TV" book, and the I SPY CD. Please do not lump us into a "message board" category, we are much more than that. "IF" Wikipedia wants to provide on-going and current information on this topic, we should be included on the I SPY page. Thank you, Tatia Loring 01:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)~
If there are any references for that, then it can be added with references --TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 07:06, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • References:

  • Comment I added information to the article based on the Spy Television reference that referres to the I Spy Forum. If it is kept in the article, it may make moot this discussion of adding the link to the external link section. -- Jreferee 17:01, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam issue

[edit]

I just received this note ... This should go on the article's talk page. I think the forum link was removed because the link consisted of spam. Real96 01:22, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Let me assure you there is NO Spam on our site. I am the webmaster for this site and it is checked daily - and Network54 our host site has very efficient SPAM guards up!! Thanks for your note. Tatia Loring Tatia Loring 02:59, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Real96 's point appears to be that the entire I Spy Forum was considered spam from Wikipedia's perspective, not that the I Spy Forum itself contained spam. -- Jreferee 16:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Tiger comments

[edit]

The section in the novels contains a lengthy anecdote relating to the author of the novels. It is unsourced. Fair warning to whoever added it that another less-sympathetic editor is likely to eventually delete the material if a source isn't identified. 23skidoo 16:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's now May 2008 and no one's done anything about this, so I've removed it. I also took out some unencyclopedic POV/review wording with regards to the I Spy movie novelization. 23skidoo (talk) 13:21, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Culp's comments about his involvement

[edit]

Hey, you folks in the "I Spy Forum"...do you think sufficient weight is given in the article to Culp and Cosby's script contribution? According to Culp in the DVD commentary, they were uncredited writers in a large number of episodes, and the regular writers "never" quote, unquote, got the hip personalities of the agents correct, even in a single script. File:ISPYBook-CushmanLaRosa.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]

An image used in this article, File:ISPYBook-CushmanLaRosa.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 13 October 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

Vandalism/Allegations

[edit]

I have corrected this article. It claimed that the syndicated episodes would "die a quick death" and directly calls Bill Cosby a rapist. This is inappropriate. Mention could have been made to the uncertainty of future broadcasts, but this edit was made in an obvious attempt at vandalism, not to inform readers. Please note: your IP address was logged when you made the edit, and this should serve as your warning. Editing is never completely anonymous, and I will gladly monitor your IP address over the next few days.

Why the truncation note in the I Spy Forums section? Why not just copy the missing text from the last version (1046 13 Dec 08) before the vandalism? 24.61.4.237 (talk) 13:08, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Home Video

[edit]

For region 2 all 3 seasons were released in 2005 in 3 box sets with german language as "Tennis, Schläger & Kanonen". According to amazon english language is also included. https://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=tennis+schl%C3%A4ger+kanonen As one can see they have become collectors items by now (2018) with prices off the chart. Maybe someone would like to add that to the home video section. I myself dont dare to plague the readers with my bumpy english ;) 95.33.100.15 (talk) 20:55, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
