Merger proposal[edit]

Oh dear, there are two separate article about ITU-R BS.468: this one, and ITU-R 468 noise weighting. Anyone got the gumption to be able to merge them nicely? Looks like there's at least some decent content in each of them. --mcld (talk) 15:37, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, there are not two articles about ITU-R BS.468! The definitive standard is ITU-R 468 (that standard states that the ITU took over maintenance of what was originally CCIR468 when the CCIR finished) and as with most standards there are many national standards that largely copy the definitive one by agreement. However, I know from experience that many BS equivalent standards are not the same as the ones they derive from. In one case especially (rumble measurement I believe) the BS incorporates a different rectifier characteristic, which is considered better. In other cases the tolerance limits can differ especially if they have been updated several times as in ITU-R 468 and national standards have not followed suit. So the ITU-R 468 article must remain, and I suggest that national standards are either redirected to this, or given their own page explaining possible national differences and then linking to the definitive one. I'm not sure about the merging of my original standard: page which was an experiment in relation to details that might be considered too intricate for a main article. On balance perhaps they should be included in the main article now, but low down so as not to intrude on the basic explanation. --Lindosland (talk) 14:48, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Lindosland, the correct reference *is* ITU-R BS.468 (actually, ITU-R BS.468-4 (1994)) ... in this case it means Broadcasting Standard, not British Standard. I think the article should be ITU-R 468 and it would definitely be good to merge the two of them. DLJosephson (talk) 19:35, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
