Deletion[edit]

There was a proposal to delete this article, on the grounds that ICAR Comercial was the same aircraft. I suggest instead we merge the two, following the suggestion of User:Ahunt at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft#IAR 36. I'm happy that the merged article should use the ICAR Comercial title if there is general agreement that it is the most accurate but we should keep IAR 36 as a redirect and point the other redirects to it at the Comercial instead. This aircraft has many names, rightly or wrongly used by respectable authors so these redirects are useful. Was there not a discussion a little while ago about the names? I can't remember where!TSRL (talk) 12:31, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've finally spotted and sourced my error! The Comercial was built by ICAR, as it says in the infobox, but it has acquired an IAR type number IAR 38. This is what Smith says; but IAR were a separate company, one of the 3 (?) pre-war Romanian aero factories. So I guess Smith is mistaken and lost the C in ICAR, even though he talks about ICAR earlier in his piece. Presumably there was an IAR 36, or at least a project with that number, though it does not appear in the navbox of IAR. However, the Commercial, if it had the (Messerschmitt) number 36 as Smith says, should have been the ICAR 36, or ICAR M 36. So, when we have done the merge let's get rid of this page but have a redirect from ICAR 36 to ICAR Commercial.TSRL (talk) 19:22, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For now, I've replaced IAR by ICAR everywhere but in the title.TSRL (talk) 19:28, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
