A reason for the Hipposandal - Caltrops.
[edit]Caltrops are pieces of metal (shaped into spikes and so on) scattered about on a battlefield, designed to disable men or horses thus radically reducing the effectiveness of an enemy attack. Hipposandals (with their metal soles) would have given horses at least some sort of defence against caltrops. Yes horses do not like wearing them - but horses can be trained, and the alternative was crippled horses.2A02:C7D:B48D:1200:2898:E9FC:5205:3E8D (talk) 20:30, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
