1878 vs 1934[edit]

Havana Club says "The brand was established by José Arechabala in 1878" but this article says "Havana Club rum, was first created by José Arechabala in 1934." This seems confusing, if not outright contradictory. Rees11 (talk) 01:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some Googling turns up a lifespan of c. 1847-1923 for José Arechabala, which would make the 1878 date more likely. Would be nice to have a source, though. --Delirium (talk) 06:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The destillery was founded 1878, the rum was created 1935. --Knut.C (talk) 09:41, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merging back into Havana Club[edit]

I propose that this article should be merged into the other Havana Club article. They are two different products, but from a reader's perspective they are the same brand, so the split is confusing to readers. And 80% of this article is the history and the trademark dispute, which is essentially identical between the two brands and is wasteful/error-prone to keep two copies of. It will take some careful writing to keep the distinction clear in the other article, but I think it is a better outcome for the readers and eventually for the editors as well.

Ideally, discussion of the merge should happen at Talk:Havana_Club#Propose merging Havana_Club .28Bacardi.29 back into this one. —Luis (talk) 18:11, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
