I don't know if it is wrong to ask if Mr.Bizo was white or black under apartheid? I am just asking ... Dr.Poison 18:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

George Bizos is of European descent and therefore was classed as white under apartheid--Jcw69 15:51, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, because if I remember right the lawers in SA were whites, as the law forbidden "black lawers" från "white courts". But thanks. . . Dr.Poison 05:36, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think there are a number of things George Bizos would like us to tidy up..Gregorydavid 08:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Human Rights lawyer?

[edit]

I don't think so. Political activist lawyer is perhaps more applicable. One should note that the opposed amnesty that would be due, on the same grounds ANC members got amnesty. --197.228.25.7 (talk) 12:21, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Year of Birth

[edit]

According to http://www.sahistory.org.za/people/george-bizos and Bizos' Wikidata entry he was born in 1928. Please check. --Vanellus (talk) 17:05, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noting that, Vanellus. I've just found a definitive source which confirms 1927, and have sent a correction to the SA History site. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:14, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for answering that quickly. I changed the date in de:George Bizos to 1927. https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/anti-apartheid-hero-george-bizos-birthday-achievements-work/ also suggested 1927 as year of birth. Later I found this: https://mg.co.za/article/2008-11-16-birthday-tea-with-bizos, very much suggesting 1928. This one: https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/a-great-champion-of-democracy-117871 gives his 75th birthday in 2003. There are more sources stating 1928 as year of birth, and many sources stating 2017 as the year of his 90th birthday party (which obviously took place). Strange ... Last time I encountered such a time gap was with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who was born in 1934 or 1936, or even in 1933. There are references for either version. --Vanellus (talk) 04:29, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, Vanellus, and thanks for the date correction (I was in too much of a hurry at that point - didn't review what I had typed carefully enough!). If you look at ref. no. 2 (or here), he says that his 80th birthday celebration was only 9 years before his 90th, and goes on to explain how the error was made originally, and then continued, based on his ID documents. I'll try to get back to the rest of the article to improve the citations later. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:03, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Once more thanks for your explanation of the time gap between Bizos' 80th and 90th birthday. I adjusted the German article again, using your reference. --Vanellus (talk) 20:58, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
