Merge

[edit]

Why these pages need to merge -- Alfakim --  talk  14:26, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Other articles follow the procedure of listing known members of a race on the race page. See Jaffa, Goa'uld, Tok'ra.
  2. That's where the information is relevant, in context, accessible, and useful.
  3. Having a seperate page for a list merely generates an out-of-place and uninformative load of text that no one's ever likely to read or find in context.
  4. These lists aren't big enough issues in Stargate to warrant seperate articles for themselves.
  5. In each case, e.g. the Athosians, the Athosians are inextricably linked to the Athos article. Athosians are from Athos, Athos is the home of Athosians. The connection is absolute and exclusive, they are bound.
  6. In talking about one, you're inevitably talking about another. Why split it?
  7. Merging these pages would cut down on the number of pages in general (making things generally easier and more informative), and would bring more useful information together, also giving some depth to articles like Athos. Too many seperate lists can be pointless.

Why these pages don't need to merge

  1. That it had been done in the other way before it doesn't means is the right way to do it.
  2. In an article about a race, it's relevant the story of that race, not a biography of all the characters of that race. Merging you will add a loadful of information that often it's not pertinent to the article and only muds it. Link yes, include no.
  3. A united page will soon become too big. People were already starting trying to break up the characters articles, if you create a ever bigger page, soon we won't have two pages, we'll have two dozen because people will say "it's too long" and start breaking away their favorite characters.
  4. See 3.
  5. That's like saying that an article about Earth has to have the biography of all the people who ever lived on Earth. One thing is the planet, the culture and the history. The other the individuals.
  6. That's not necessary. You can talk about a race without mentioning anyone by name. It's not "inevitably".
  7. See 3.

Fair use rationale for Image:Genii city (Coup D'etat).jpeg

[edit]

Image:Genii city (Coup D'etat).jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Do other cultures know about them or not?

[edit]

Teyla didn't seem to know that the Genii were anything other than farmers. Yet later seasons talk about proud Genii warriors being used as mercenaries by several different cultures. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.24.92.120 (talk) 00:36, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some do, some don't. There's a lot of largely primative societies like Teyla's people in the show (hunter gatherer/basic agriculture level), which can come up with some odd ideas - the problem of Wraith collaborators/worshipers is an ongoing concern for much of the show. I'd guess that the Genii would only reveal themselves to cultures that are sophisticated enough that nobody would consider that a reasonable option. (For a real life parallel, consider North Korea - the lower classes are given minimal education littered with propaganda, and the people swallow it up and I've heard the ruling Kims are considered gods (far from sure about that, but...) - without the knowledge to put things in context, they can't sort out the truth from the lies.) Since the Genii wish to keep their level of sophistication hidden from the Wraith, they would have to be careful who they would trust with that kind of information. 24.69.206.90 (talk) 12:09, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
