Galife[edit]

(moved from talkpage for another article)

галифе : searched around ant it seems that the russian word галифе (named after Gaston Alexandre Auguste, Marquis de Galliffet) is commonly used synonymously with "riding breeches". On the the other hands, in the internets "Galliffet" is commonly used in various places which display or sell Soviet military uniform. Also there is a historical anecdote circulating the internets about how Galliffet invented the pants. Mostly in Russian, but penetrated other languages as well. The copycats of this fake story are easily identifiable by a non-existing French "general Kovenqyur" or similar, transliterated from Russian "Ковенкюр", equally fake "french surname".
