Shellal needs more attention

[edit]

I cannot tell if it deserves an article, but it is very often mentioned, mainly in two contexts:

  1. Shellal was a very important machine gun position during WWI
  2. The Shellal Mosaic, a mid-sixth-century Byzantine church mosaic, is often mentioned, see for instance the often-quoted works of top expert Rahel Hachlili, such as Ancient Mosaic Pavements: Themes, Issues, and Trends among many. Currently at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

It seems that there was no further excavation of the mound (tell?) east of the Ein Shellal spring after the ANZAC-related dig around the time of the WWI battle there, at least no major one, but maybe I'm wrong. The name that pops up is Khirbet Shellal, not Tell Shellal.

Just added a useful source (Jewish National Fund, Eshkol National Park (Besor)). Arminden (talk) 10:33, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
