Citation Mechanics

[edit]

JA: It's like this. Mathematicians have traditionally been far more sensible in their citation practices than just about anybody around, and I would hope that we could keep it that way in WP. Templates and Refbots of various species are neither required nor recommended in WP, and those who have had some experience with them can tell you that they are just not worth the pain in the eyes, and moreover lead to information degradation over time. Ah, I apparently missed the recent discussion on Wikipedia talk:Citing sources#Citation_Templates. The way I remembered it, the use of citation templates was explicitly recommended. — Tobias Bergemann 13:32, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
