Cat

[edit]

The machine translation of the quote is: "In Ellovë there are also several Albanian families (13) who came from the nearby village of Cërnivor for marriage reasons. According to the evidence I did, I saw these members of the Albanian nation assimilated". The 2021 census shows 1 Albanian. --Local hero talk 03:03, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He is saying that in 2017 there are 13 Albanian families who have married into the village and assimilated. This doesn’t necessarily imply they become Torbesh, as one can assimilate into a community (become part of it) without changing its cultural markers. The above sentence alone is not enough to revert war to exclude the cat. Besides, machine translators are to be used secondary to what other, fluent users of a language can understand from sources. Since you are using a machine translator, I assume you are not a speaker of Albanian, and therefore would caution against revert warring on Albanian language sources without proper TP discussion. Thank you. Alltan (talk) 03:08, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So, what you're saying is this quote tells us nothing as to the ethnic identity of these specific people?
"The above sentence [...] is not enough to exclude the cat", but how is it enough to include it? --Local hero talk 03:14, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I’m sure even without machine translation you can tell he’s calling them Albanians. Alltan (talk) 03:17, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just as I can tell he's saying assimilated, confirmed by 2021 census results. --Local hero talk 03:20, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That’s called WP:SYNTH. The author is referring to integration into the village through marriage. A Torbesh saying he is a Turk or an Albanian is still a Torbesh. Do not conflate assimilation with integration, the quote is too vague to argue for what you are arguing it is showing. A much more faithful meaning of the text is that 13 Albanian Crnovorci families integrated and are now Elovčani families. The 2021 census is irrelevant to the text in question. Alltan (talk) 03:25, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When stating "assimilated" (asimiluar), he precedes it with "Albanian". So, he describes their assimilation in the context of ethnicity, not village identity.
Nevertheless, as you state, this is a vague quote. It should not be used to support any assertions of the current ethnic identity of these individuals. Thus, the cat should be removed. --Local hero talk 03:59, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is not how Albanian grammar works. Nowhere does he state they assimilated into Torbeshis ethnically.
Yes, the quote is too vague too support the removal of the cat. If you think otherwise, start an RfC. Alltan (talk) 17:24, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On the contrary, the pre-edit war version does not have the category. Feel free to do the RFC to include it, thanks. --Local hero talk 03:38, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
