Originally this is my proposed text but it is probably not worth it - thus the redirect. Here for any one who may care: "In music, droning is the practice of using a drone - a sustained tone on one pitch that usually provides harmonic support for one or more other melodies. Droning may also refer metaphorically to a form of psychological torture where the subject is exposed over long periods to repetitive, insistent, irritating sounds or speech."
