This is a page about an institution. It is not fair that it should be marked for speedy deletion. At the most someone can edit it if they feel that it is self promotion Thank you. kumarrajendran 07:06, 06 July 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Articles in Wikipedia need to be about notable items, places or concepts. Please provide reliable sources that will show the school's notability if you wish the article not to be deleted. -- The Red Pen of Doom 04:32, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is the notability? Are all articles about various institutions for the Deaf in wikipedia notable? It is just to provide information about an institution of the Deaf (Speech & Hearing Impaired) in India. How can you prove that an article is about a notable institution? Are all the articles found in the net referred to as citations reliable?? Anyone can put up any article as a citation and based on that can make articles in wikipedia. What is self promotion in the article about this institution. I wish that you kindly indicate the specific reason why this article is put up for speedy deletion? This is discrimination. I can give you hundreds of examples which indicate that false articles have been put up on the net and have been referred to as citations in wikipedia. Will all that be put up for speedy deletion. kumarrajendran 10:06, 06 July 2008 (UTC) [reply]

click the links for the full wikipedia description of policy. Essentially, notability comes when a third party, reliable source writes about the topic of the article in a more than passing way. Reliable sources are essentially publications that have some type of scientific peer review system or some type of editorial oversight board. Online versions of newspapers are generally reliable sources, blogs are generally not.
the vast majority of articles in Wikipedia do have some type of reliable source that talks about them in a way that indicates their notability. others do not and as they become known, people either add reliable sources, or the articles get deleted.-- The Red Pen of Doom 05:09, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is a pretty notable institution. I do agree that this article needs to be improved a lot, but deleting it would be unfair solution. Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 09:59, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have been looking for a school article to show as an example, but my random searches have not been able to find any thing that I would consider a good example! Most school articles seem to suffer from being written by publicists for the school, kids wanting to show off their particular activity and vandalism. But this link gives basics Wikipedia:Article development -- The Red Pen of Doom 13:17, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here we go! Martin Luther King Magnet at Pearl High School as an example of a decent entry level article about a school. A short lead/lede section that lays out some basic who/what/where/when/why facts in a straighfoward manner. A section on History that outlines some of the major turning points in the school (this should be better referenced however). A section on notable Awards that the school has been awarded (all backed up by reliable sources and worded in straighforward NPOV language). A section about the Academic focus/Philosophy of the school (this should also be backed up by sources - a school website would be fine for something like "focusing on vocational prep", a third party source would be better for claims like "'innovative' all-body learning methods") and a section on Student achievement - notable awards won by student teams (again, presented in NPOV manner and backed up by sources).
If you start with say say this version, add the requested verifications, and avoid non-encyclopedic/fawning language (like "it was a dream come true") and the article will be well on its way. -- The Red Pen of Doom 14:40, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

While the MGR school is briefly mentioned in this article [1] it is only in the context of the fact that the school hosted an award ceremony that a politician attended. Thus it seems to me to be a better representation of "trivial coverage" than coverage that would indicate notability. If this article were about a conference center rather than a school, such mention might be better suited to show notability. -- The Red Pen of Doom 15:56, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
