I know the first volume was available from the GPO as a hardback book as I have a copy, but was the second volume ever physically printed or only distributed in electronic form? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.50.92.159 (talk) 14:54, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

References for articles using DANAS as a source

[edit]

If you use DANAS as a source for material in your article, you should include {{DANAS}} at the top of the References section. You can copy it from this line and paste it into your article.

Sometime between mid-2014 and 2016, the DANAS website was extensively revised. Wikipedia contains many articles containing references to the pre-revision site; accessing these references now results in a 404 Server Error. If you encounter such an error, you can replace the old reference with one from the New URLs for DANAS chapters and subchapters section of this page, below.

Here is an inline reference for Volume 1. You can copy it from right here and paste it into your article. It's best to change the "accessdate" to the date on which you checked that the link is good:

<ref name='DANAS1'> {{cite book | last1 = Grossnick | first1 = Roy A. | title = Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons, Volume 1: The History of VA, VAH, VAK, VAL, VAP and VFA Squadrons | volume = | publisher = Naval Historical Center, Department of the Navy | year = 1995 | location = Washington, D.C. | url = http://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/naval-aviation-history/dictionary-of-american-naval-aviation-squadrons-volume-1.html | accessdate = 2016-06-18}}</ref>

For additional references in the same article, you can use this:

<ref name='DANAS1'/>

Here are the versions for Volume 2:

<ref Name='DANAS2'> {{cite book | last1 = Roberts | first1 = Michael D. | title = Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons, Volume 2: The History of VP, VPB, VP(H) and VP(AM) Squadrons | volume = | publisher = Naval Historical Center, Department of the Navy | year = 2000 | location = Washington, D.C. | url = http://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/naval-aviation-history/dictionary-of-american-naval-aviation-squadrons-volume-2.html | accessdate = 2016-06-18}}</ref>
<ref name='DANAS2'/>

If you want to make a REALLY GOOD, REALLY USEFUL reference, you can alter the "title = " and "url = " to match those of the PDF file of the chapter that your squadron appears in. For example:

<ref name='DANAS1-4'> {{cite book | last1 = Grossnick | first1 = Roy A. | title = Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons, Volume 1, Chapter 4: Tactical Aerial Refueling Squadron Histories (VAK)(VAK-208 to VAK-308) | volume = | publisher = Naval Historical Center, Department of the Navy | year = 1995 | location = Washington, D.C. | url = http://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/naval-aviation-history/dictionary-of-american-naval-aviation-squadrons-volume-1/chapter-4-tactical-aerial-refueling-squadron-histories-vak-vak-208-to-vak-308.html | accessdate = 2016-06-18}}</ref>

You can find the titles and urls by following the links in the New URLs for DANAS chapters and subchapters section of this page, below.

These External links go to the main pages for each of the two DANAS volumes:

DANAS has greatly changed the format of their online material. I'm working on an update for Wikipedia. While I'm working on it, there will be a large number of links in the External links section of this article. Please do not remove them; I will do it myself when the time is right. Original painting of Hell Razors logo designed by dDisney

[edit]

I own the original painting of the Hell Razors logo created by Disney Studios for the Navy. It’s got some minor damage however it’s a round painting mounted to a shield shaped piece of wood. My father was a Top Gun pilot in the Midway in Korea. If anyone knows more about it or it’s value please contact me at [email protected] 24.25.200.62 (talk) 04:16, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
