Birth date[edit]

This profile had 1894 as a birth year, no source given. His NZ military file gives 4 May 1894 as date of birth, however it was common for military files to have incorrect birth years -- either due to ignorance of their own age; or fudging their age to meet age criteria for enlistment in the military.

There is a GRO registration in 1895 2nd quarter for him , and there are further corroborating sources to show that this is the correct registration (as opposed to another child of the same name).
