Obscured By Clouds Tour redirects here. Why? Obscured By Clouds Tour was January 20 1972 to April 20 1972, Dark Side Tour started April 22 1972. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paddekaka (talkcontribs) 12:26, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was no "Obscured By Clouds Tour", just regular tours to USA and Europe to perform Eclipse or Dark side of the moon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alberto077 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

San Diego Convention Center in 1972?

[edit]

I saw Pink Floyd in their Dark Side of the Moon tour around then in the San Diego Sports Arena.

I don't believe the Convention Center was built until much later. Somebody might want to check this. The Sports Arena is now called the Valley View Casino Center. 2602:306:33D8:A450:C90E:3461:7E0E:7B32 (talk) 23:31, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just a reminder: recent tour GAs and GANs try to meet WP web accessibility goals as outlined in WP:CONCERT TOUR#Tables. WP:FLCs often include an "Accessibility review (MOS:DTAB)", so it's becoming standard for articles with a lot of tables. —Ojorojo (talk) 17:04, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't a clue how to do that; most of the time tables are already done by somebody else, leaving the prose and sourcing to the likes of me. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also be interested to see how that's done. Presumably Ojorojo can provide a demonstration. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:12, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The Cry of Love Tour is an example. Since "legs" were not identified as such in the sources, the continents are not listed. This avoided the problem addressed in MOS:COLHEAD (avoid column headers in the middle of a table), which can be solved by adding a column for continents or splitting the tables up by continent as in a current GAN. Let me know which you prefer and I'll prepare a mockup. —Ojorojo (talk) 19:02, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I did laugh at that link to the MOS where the reason for applying it - the crux of the matter - has a [dubiousdiscuss] tag on it! Still, if the problem is just "remove the country columns", that works for me. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:24, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the continents aren't needed, COLHEAD is a moot point, but MOS:DTAB (an actual guideline) still requires table captions and scopes of headers:
{|class="wikitable plainrowheaders" style="text-align:center;"
|+ List of 1972 concerts
|-
! scope="col" | Date
! scope="col" | City
! scope="col" | Country
! scope="col" | Venue
|-
! scope="row" | 17 January
| rowspan="3" | [[London]]
| rowspan="19" | England
| rowspan="3" | [[Rainbow Theatre]], Finsbury Park – Rehearsals
|-
! scope="row" | 18 January
|-
! scope="row" | 19 January
|}
etc., etc. The widths will need adjusting though. Let me know. —Ojorojo (talk) 22:26, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I personally don't see any problem with the readability of the tables as they stand. I guess Country be replaced by Continent. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:31, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are you speaking from the perspective of a visually impaired person or ? —Ojorojo (talk) 22:46, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm speaking from my personal perspective, as a reasonably well-sighted person (provided I have the right zoom setting in place). Perhaps visually impaired people provided evidence that triggered the guideline in the first place? I haven't checked the history. Or perhaps visually impaired people typically have problems with column headers in the middles of a tables? I'm not sure why that should be, but I don't know. But I'm also unconvinced of the added value that the countries and/or continents bring to the tables, unless it's to emphasise the geographical grouping of the venues. They're both a bit redundant. Perhaps we could ask whoever first constructed them. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:58, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The tables were constructed by Aspects on 24 April 2012 and have been basically unchanged since then, except perhaps me checking for factual accuracy. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 23:10, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok. Still active, I see. Perhaps they have a view. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:16, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
[edit conflict] MOS:DTAB is supposed to be helpful for persons who need to use screen readers and other web browsing tools. Maybe you should direct your more general questions/comments to WT:ACCESSIBILITY. Regarding your other point, I left out the continent headers and separate country columns for The Cry of Love Tour#Concerts GA as unnecessary busy work. They are concerts, not the Olympics or World Cup. –Ojorojo (talk) 23:21, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, asking about edits from almost ten years ago. Most tour articles at the time had the tables for the concert dates, but there were some like this article that just a list of concert dates, so I changed the lists to tables. Most articles had headings for continents since they tend to be their own legs in a lot of tours, so I did that here as well. This was before any concerns of web accessibility, and while I personally think it looks worse, if it is better for people with screen readers, that is more important. Currently, there are two tables based on years and not on continents, so I believe all that would need to be changed is the scope of the header columns and the score of the date row cells, while leaving the city, country and venue cells alone. Aspects (talk) 03:01, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining. I think Ojorojo was suggesting that column headers in the middles of a tables can cause problems. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:13, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Would review this one. Artem.G (talk) 12:19, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good timing, it's exactly 50 years ago today that the first gig of this classic tour was played. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:45, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, became unexpectedly busy, would review the article by Thursday. Artem.G (talk) 11:45, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, sorry for long waiting. I'm back and will review it now. Artem.G (talk) 16:19, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Article reads well, the structure is fine, images are tagged appropriately.

Comments:

  • from the infobox - "No. of shows 128 (135 scheduled)" - maybe this can be added to the lead? And I think a note telling that 7 events were cancelled (or what happened to them?) is needed.
  • I think that the article would benefit by adding a short section about the album and its history. F.e. "By then, Dark Side of the Moon sounded close to the final album, except without any female vocals or saxophone, which would follow the next year.[15]" - so it would be nice I think to have a look at a final album, without much details, just a major milestones.
  • "new Watkins Electric Music PA system" - what's a 'PA system'?
  • "rig designed by Arthur Max." - he needs some introduction, like f.e. "production designr who worked frequently with the band"
  • "there were problems with the backing tape, and the group decided to stop." - can these problems be somehow described?
  • " filmed by Peter Clifton " - can be linked to Peter Clifton?
  • "(Early version of "The Great Gig in the Sky" without female vocals)" and "(Early version of "Any Colour You Like")" - no need for capital "E"
  • "playing stadiums for the first time." - for the first time during this tour, or for the first time at all?
  • tables - everything is good, but maybe such notes as "Rehearsals", "(first "Dark Side of the Moon" live performance interrupted at 'Money' due to technical problems)", "(abandoned due to power failure)" can be moved into a separate column, 'Comments'?

I would look through sources now, and update the review once done. Artem.G (talk) 16:19, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Artem.G: I've addressed all of the issues, except for the table, which I've failed to do in a satisfactory way that doesn't break everything else? Ojorojo, can you assist? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:39, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Since the comments don't really apply to the venues, they probably shouldn't be in that column. But a separate "Comments" column would necessitate reducing the other column widths and for six or so entries out of 100+ shows, it would leave a lot of blank space. I'll add it for you, but maybe efns would be sufficient for so few uses. Let me know. —Ojorojo (talk) 14:33, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe footnotes would be a suitable alternative, as most shows didn't have any specific incidents to speak about. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:33, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, efns would work too! Artem.G (talk) 14:06, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, done. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:23, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I've checked some sources, everything seems to be fine. I see no copyvio, and article is really nice. So it's GA now! Artem.G (talk) 17:28, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Speak to Me" live in 1972?

[edit]

I'm pretty sure "Speak to Me" wasn't played in the 1972 shows. It doesn't even appear on an early mix of the album. The voices weren't recorded until the end of recording the album and Torry's vocal didn't exist yet, so I'm not sure why it's listed as being part of the set in 1972. – Dyolf87 (talk) 14:38, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
