Use of this letter should be consistent all throughout the article. Charles 18:09, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I shall make a couple of changes withing several hours, then unlock the article and you may implement your proposal, ok? --Ghirla -трёп- 06:58, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good... I was hesitant to do it myself as I had never before seen that template on WP. Charles 14:00, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

Very interesting article. What is the correct pronunciation of the name Croÿ? Mraj 13:56, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the correct pronunciation is "Crua" (Russian: Круа), no? --Ghirla -трёп- 14:06, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone who knows add it - the spelling is unusual enough to warrant this. Bazza 14:56, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charles I de Croÿ (1522-31)

[edit]

Can someone find correct dates and info for this guy. Was he alive when his father, Philippe II de Croÿ (1496 - 1549), died. Was this guy married when he died at age nine? Cafe Nervosa 21:50, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have the following info: Charles de Croÿ, Duke of Aerschot, Prince of Chimay (July 31, 1522 - June 24, 1551), married firstly on Feb 20, 1542 to Louise of Lorraine (1521-1542) and secondly on December 1, 1549 to Antoinette of Burgundy (1529-1588). Charles 22:58, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Beer

[edit]

They have their own brand of beer! [1] There's also drinking songs (in Dutch) at that site. Wow, just wow. Phr 06:14, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Divide page up to allow pages for separate individuals?

[edit]

There are several individuals (e.g. Antoine Le Grand) who redirect to this page. While it is obviously useful to have a page dealing with the house as a whole, it seems to me that there should be one page per person. Dsp13 14:41, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you are willing to write the new informative, full-scale article about Antoine, you are welcome. Philipe de Croÿ, Duke of Aerschot is an example of how this may be effected. If you intend to mechanically pillage this page by splitting it into sundry pitiful stubs, please don't. --Ghirla -трёп- 17:38, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 30 November 2017

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Reverted move (WP:RMUM). @SnowFire next time request a revet of a move under WP:RMUM -- PBS (talk) 18:44, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

CroÿHouse of Croÿ – Revert undiscussed move, restore old and long-standing title (since 2006!). Since House of Croÿ is the long-standing title from article creation and from sources, there really isn't any need to defend this; User:Gryffindor should post the rationale for their move to Croÿ (which they did not do when asked about this after attempting this move before; see User_talk:Gryffindor/Archive14#House of Croÿ move) . That said, the stated reason is "no other article with this name, no need to disambiguate". But this is irrelevant; sources use "House of Croy" (Google Books search). It'd be like moving an article on "Bob Zabbiez" to "Zabbiez" because there's currently no article called "Zabbiez." Well, maybe, but if this hypothetical person's name was "Bob Zabbiez", then that's what their article should be. This collective group is called "House of Croy" in the sources I have read; if you read "Croÿ succeeded in gaining the prestigious appointment as Archbishop of Toledo", it means one specific person, not the family as a whole. SnowFire (talk) 21:11, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Procedural note: Note that if this move is reverted, the related move of the Wikimedia Commons category Gryffindor performed (see diff) should be reverted as well. As a side note, Gryffindor also intentionally made an inaccurate edit (diff) removing the {{R from move}} template in a bid to make reverting the move slow. Even if you agree with him, technical tricks like this are bad form; just file a darn RM if reverted. Hell, maybe he's even right, but if he is, he could have, you know, briefly explained himself rather than making me spend my time... SnowFire (talk) 21:13, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Read WP:D about disambiguation rules, which in this case makes a disambiguation not necessary, so there is no need to overcomplicate the matter. Gryffindor (talk) 08:53, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Except, as I noted above, this isn't disambiguation. "House of Croÿ" is the name for the topic. SnowFire (talk) 05:23, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural note: Since nobody seems interested in commenting on this, I'd just like to point out that the "stability" criterion should favor restoration of the old title by default if there is no consensus - the title used by the article creator and most of its editors, the title used on French Wikipedia ("Maison de Croÿ"), the title in English sources. (From WP:RM: "If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted." Gryffindor's move was both undiscussed and controversial.) Also, I don't want to speak for other editors, but User:PBS also complained about Gryffindor's moves away from "House of" on his talk page (see this), but has not been active for the past two weeks. SnowFire (talk) 15:17, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
