Thank you

[edit]

For revising this important page. There were a number or other important canons made that are not mentioned and links to article pages already in Wikipedia and references to work on this history. No mention of letters to the Churches.

I have added two references to the great scholars Cornelius Clifford and Patrick J. Healy, who's terse work can be found in Catholic Encyclopedia 1930, also references to the other cites.

On reading the page anew, I find that the modern name for Sardica is not referenced......
The reason for the Council conflicts with Historical reports and the findings of the Council are not mentioned.....
This Council is key to the Article Page; Athanasius of Alexandria where an account of the Council is given..... I researched this and found Historians in agreement.... However, the Page here seems to be talking of a different Council....

MacOfJesus (talk) 21:44, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This Page cannot be merged with the opposition Council..... MacOfJesus (talk) 21:52, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The reasons for the opposition Council, the activity of the Eusebian party, show clearly the intentions and character of the Eusebian party.... In modern idium: "they were something-else"....MacOfJesus (talk) 13:30, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

In December 2014, an editor suggested that the Council of Philippopolis article be merged into the Council of Sardica. —BoBoMisiu (talk) 01:11, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I prefer separate short articles that are there own landing pages. —BoBoMisiu (talk) 01:11, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The Council of Serdica is the Western Council, whereas the Council of Philippopolis is what the Eastern bishops break off into. They reach separate conclusions, precisely because they have divided and so should probably have their own pages. (Cf. Kelly, Early Christian Doctrines p. 242 & 248)
  • Oppose This Council is key and the Page is in need of being rewritten.... see: Athanasius of Alexandria.. MacOfJesus (talk) 21:47, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
& The Article Page needs to be re-written.... MacOfJesus (talk) 12:00, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Merge proposal closed given the consensus against (regarless of whether or not one or both need re-writing). Klbrain (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Article Page..

[edit]

I have before me all the Historical accounts of this important Council.....

I would like to re-write the Page.....

MacOfJesus (talk) 14:46, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have put in Historical Accounts. It is important to be aware that the writings of the Eusebian Party were quite different to the straight Historical accounts..... We found this in the Article Page: Athanasius of Alexandria.... Eight years ago, the page here, was in disarray.... It took a lot of research to iron it out..... Historians were: Cornelius Clifford, T. Gilmartin, F.A Forbes, A Butler..... These Historians spent their lives sifting through the original accounts... MacOfJesus (talk) 11:52, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sardica / Serdica (343 - 344)....

[edit]

The Historical Accounts all refer to the Council as: SARDICA.....

Is this the right council?

[edit]

I recently read the sections in the books of RPC Hanson and Lewis Ayres on this council. When I began reading this Wikipedia page, I was unsure whether this is talking about the same council. For example, the Council of Sardica in 343 never met, but this article says that it did meet under Hossius. After reading further, I think this is the same council, but many aspects of the description are just completely wrong. AndriesvN (talk) 16:11, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
