Can I suggest that the Surname list is split into two lists still on this page- Charleton and Charlton to reduce confusion. There is no evidence to suggest that the Surname Charleton (origin de Cherleton Norman French) mutated into Charlton (origin from the farmstead of the ceorls /churls/ OE) so to keep them separate seems sensible.
