ChaiyanamChai Nam – The article should reflect that as per subdistricts webpage http://www.chainam.go.th SietsL (talk) 09:42, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Matches the Royal Society's spelling guide. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:09, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Too bad I did not see this request before. The local government units often use totally non-standard romanized names. According to a book published by DOPA with the recommended transcriptions, this subdistrict should be named "Chaiyanam", the naming I always follow. Maybe @Potapt: can clear which romanization fits the actual pronounciation best. BTW: If "Chai Nam" is the better romanization, then the article text needs to be adjusted as well. andy (talk) 15:47, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Heh. The Royal Society's directory (now here) has it as Chai Nam, though as Potapt pointed out in another discussion that document has been found to contain contradictions with their other publications. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:49, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it should be changed to Chai Nam, according to the document in the link provided by Paul_012, which in turn reflects the local pronunciation as heard here. --Potapt (talk) 21:48, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My latest was still the 2007 publication, didn't know there was a new updated version. And sadly again only a PDF, making it a more manual task to work through it to find the differences to update and document my XMLs [1]. andy (talk) 16:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
