I'll review this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:42, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Images are appropriately tagged; sources are reliable.

  • "Williams fought and won the significant 1898 civil rights case, Williams v. Board of Education of Fairfax District, which upheld": I think this should be "won a significant" as the reader has not yet heard of the case.
  • Thank you so much for this suggestion! I’ve addressed this in the prose accordingly. — West Virginian (talk) 00:57, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The implication in the lead is that Williams was the only teacher at the Coketon school, otherwise she wouldn't have been the only one sueing (or the other teachers would have stopped teaching after five months). Is this made clear in the sources? If so it would be good to say so in the article. We say it was a two-room school, so there might have been one other teacher.
  • The sequence in the article is that she refused to sign and then spoke to Clifford, but it would make more sense if Clifford advised her to refuse to sign it. Do the sources say?
  • Did the letter warning Clifford not to move forward with the case carry an implied threat?

That's all I can find. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 01:18, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

West Virginian, just checking that you're planning to work on this? Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 08:45, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mike Christie, thank you for completing your review and for pinging me. I will try to address all of your comments by the end of tomorrow (13 September). Thank you again for your time and comprehensive and thorough review and guidance! — West Virginian (talk) 02:15, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
West Virginian, just a reminder. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:10, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, Mike Christie! I am working on this as we speak! West Virginian (talk) 00:55, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi -- no hurry. I do have one more question, and a couple of source spotchecks that I should have done when I started the review. I ran Earwig and it finds no issues.

  • For the marriage and death records, did you have to make any assumptions in order to identify the right people referred to by those records? They're primary sources and with common names it's easy to get the wrong record, so I wanted to check how you did it.
  • FNs 35 & 36 cite "In 2020, artist Alison "Ali" Printz completed a 21-foot (6.4 m) by 17-foot (5.2 m) mural of Williams along the back of the Buxton and Landstreet Gallery and Studios in Thomas, facing toward the Blackwater Canyon Trail along the North Fork Blackwater River": verified.
  • FN 33 cite the wording on the historical markers; verified.

West Virginian, none of the three remaining points are really problems with the article, they're just questions that would be interesting to know the answers to, so I'm going to go ahead and promote this now as it seems you're not active at the moment. Mike Christie, thank you for your comprehensive review and for your comments. I had been performing additional research and review of the existing resources, and was not able to find additional information regarding these points raised above. Unfortunately, there are not too many sources with the details necessary to address these questions and comments, and all available resources were used to write this article with the details available. I just wanted to ensure I had exhausted all available options. Thank you so much again for your time and patience throughout this review. I greatly appreciate it! — West Virginian (talk) 09:25, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
