The first cited source, which seems to be the best one, provides Spain as an origin? And the meat version seems to be called French capirotada? I'm also wondering about the name capirotada, which translates on google translate as blackcap? Candleabracadabra (talk) 23:59, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

French connection

The tale goes, Carlota, wife of Maximiliano, sent to Mexico by French dictator Napolian Bonaparte; wanted a dessert and the staff had to come up with something quick, so they grabbed what ever they had at hand: Day old French baguette Tomato Anis star Clove Raw sugar Onion Peanuts & Hard cheese .
