Updating CCBC Wiki page

[edit]

Hello, I'm going to be editing the CCBC wiki page. In order for this not to be a conflict of interest I'll be posting that I do intern for the CCBC and that is why I'm making changes, the info will only be more relevant and up-to-date but will have the same content and neutral context. Maryan.naimi (talk) 18:37, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is somewhat confusing to have the proposed content on the talk page. It makes sense when it is a few sentences to be replaced, but posting entire sections leads to some confusion. I have moved the proposal to a subpage

Comments to Maryan.naimi

  • The original wording refers to private sector, non-profit membership organization while the proposed wording adds non-partisan, yet the source does not mention that phrase. I suggest that it be removed, or a supporting source added.
  • The original said to facilitate and promote trade and investment while the proposed text adds the word better as in to better facilitate and promote business, trade and investment. The qualifier "better" is common in PR speak, but not appropriate here.
  • The original had acts as a chamber of commerce while the revised has is the de facto Canadian chamber of commerce. I'm not completely comfortable with this, but at a minimum, want the link back in, to make sure chamber of commerce is not confused with Chamber of Commerce. I'd prefer "a" to "the" to help avoid confusion. Still mulling whether "de facto" is OK.
  • There is a reference to business incubators. I want to debate whether they belong in the lead, but first, I failed to find them in the reference.
  • Your references are bare urls, which are not preferred. Please check out Referencing for beginners and note how I changed the first reference.
  • Your first two references were to the same site. Best practice is to create a full citation, and use the named reference option so it can be re-used. I did that for the first two as an example.
  • The Mandate section is sourced to the organization main page, but I did not see the mandate on that page. Did I miss it, or is it elsewhere? I tried a search and failed to find the mandate. (While we usually want editors to write in their own words, missions, slogans, and mandates are common exception where I would expect to find the exact words of the organization.
  • In the Advocacy and Awards section, there is a link to a dab page Hatch. It used to go to Hatch. Isn't the older version correct?
  • Section headings end with a colon, which is not consistent with WP:MOS
  • The Structure section makes a number of claims, none of which are backed up by a source.

If these can be addressed, I can make the edit--S Philbrick(Talk) 00:32, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My guess is that you won't see this until Monday. I'll be away Monday, but back Tuesday.--S Philbrick(Talk) 16:17, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Update Request

[edit]

Hi Sphilbrick, I was wondering when you would be making the changes that were requested, I did edited the info that I had provided was per your request and also added proper references by wiki reference guidelines.

Thanks Maryan.naimi (talk) 14:43, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've been waiting to hear from you. I will look into it shortly.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:11, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We are almost there. I asked about the link to the word Hatch. It had been changed to Hatch, which I think is wrong. I've changed it to Hatch (you will have to click to see the difference.)
I'm going to assume my correction is right, and you can let me know if it is wrong and I can fix it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:29, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, it looks good, I do have one thing to add the link for our mandate still needs to be put in. I had to find it because it's not directly posted, it fits into one of the other categories in the website. Thanks I'll link that in now.

Maryan.naimi (talk) 13:38, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've made the change, I also changed the link so that the mandate contents are referenced. I did a History Merge, to bring the two versions together. This is only my second History merge, I hope I did it correctly.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:51, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please check to make sure it looks OK.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:52, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It looks good, thanks. The only thing is we have now lost the Info summary box that was on the right hand side of the screen with the info about the organization.Maryan.naimi (talk) 15:35, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, not sure how that got lost, but I restored it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:19, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Info Available

[edit]

I found this pdf, for the 2012 signing of the Alberta Abroad program, I though you might want to put that in as while. I would have done it myself but the page no longer exists so I can't link it myself. http://www.international.alberta.ca/documents/IIRAnnualReport_2012-2013.pdf Maryan.naimi (talk) 16:05, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I added it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:16, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
