When How leaft the NY Yankees Managing Job
[edit]"but as so many Yankee managers before him, there was personal animosity between Showalter and team owner George Steinbrenner, and he was forced out in favor of Joe Torre."
My memory of history is at least to the public he resigned, not forced out, he did not care to deal with Steinbrenner overinvolvement wiht the team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wfoj2 (talk • contribs) 12:45, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Showalter primarily left because of the fallout from the strike in 1994. The Yankees had the best record in the American League that year and were destined for the playoffs. However, a strike derailed it and each time Showalter was at Yankee Stadium, it was a whole nightmare for him. It felt like the day baseball went on strike that year, as it took away his chances to manage a team to a World Series win. He cited that 1994 "hurts more than any" and it left him helpless. He said that the Yankees thought they were the best team that year, "but got nothing to show for it." -- SNIyer12, (talk), 21:37, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Two issues with Buck Showalter's page
[edit]I'm very confused with the photo that appears in Buck Showalter's Infobox. His facial expression conveys anger, annoyance, disgust, and despair. This photo is totally inappropriate and needs to be replaced with a better picture.
Also, Showalter batted left and threw left. The Infobox shows "bats" and "throws" by mistake because he is not currently PLAYING professional baseball at age 65. I tried to change those words from the present tense to the past tense, but I got a template error message. I don't understand why this error message popped up because the same Infobox information for Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig is shown in the past tense.

- Agree that the photo should be replaced. 74.67.6.88 (talk) 11:20, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- I got rid of the batting and throwing info altogether. 74.67.6.88 (talk) 11:42, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
Departure from Yankees
[edit]Sources contain differing accounts of Showalter's departure from the Yankees in 1995, with some saying he resigned and others that he was let go. There may have even been some miscommunication between the two sides, according to one source. I have made some edits that lay out the lack of clarity about the manner of his departure. 74.67.6.88 (talk) 11:44, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
