Lead

Solved comments
  • It aired on November 29, 2017, on CBS. The show features scenes of Mars and his band, The Hooligans, giving out tickets, interacting with customers in a hair salon, singing and goofing on the streets of Harlem, intercut with a performance of most of his third studio album, 24K Magic (2016) → Simplify this: Aired on November 29, 2017, the show depicted Mars and his band, The Hooligans, interacting with locals intercut with a performance of most of his..."
  • The TV show began at the Apollo's marquee with a performance of the song "24K Magic" → The special had previously begun at Apollo's marquee with a performance of the album's title song.
  • The TV special → Not a big fan of the "TV", write out to "television"
  • received a positive response → Remove "a", and link "reviewers"
  • others complemented → others complimented. "Complemented" means to aid to something, for example "Mars' white cap complmented his iconc look".
  • link Warner Music
 Done

New comments

[edit]
  • depicted → depicted (Synopsis should always be in present form)
  • The Hooligans → link to The Hooligans (unless there is a reason not to)
  • most of his third studio album → most of Mars' (since you're talking about The Hooligans prior to this)
  • The Televison special → The television special
  • while others complimented his vocals → while others complimented Mars' vocals
  • of the album's deluxe edition → of the 24K Magic deluxe edition (for better clarity)

Infobox

[edit]
Solved comments
  • Does the image have ALT text; please include if not
  • Promotional poster of the TV Special → remove "of the TV special"
  • You make a mistake in "Original release". The way you wrote it out implies that the show was broadcast ongoingly from November to January. However, the January show was just a rebroadcast. Please leave only the original airing date here
 Done

New comments

[edit]
  • Promotional poster of the TV Special, titled 24K Magic Live at the Apollo, including Mars and his band → A promotional poster for the television special, showing Mars and his band in front of the Apollo Theater. Several reviews and the title are superimposed.
  • link New York City in the infobox

Background

[edit]
Solved comments
  • for a TV special → for a television special
  • already "teased" tickets → already hinted at the upcoming availability of tickets
  • showed him on top → showing him on top
  • of the Apollo's marquee → no need for "the"
  • It was later confirmed that Mars would be starring in his first TV concert special, titled Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Live at the Apollo, a one-hour program, which would air → No need to repeat the fact that it was a television special again. Reword it to: "Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Live at the Apollo, a one-hour program, was later confirmed and would air..."
  • link CBS
  • at 10:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific time → from 10-11:00 PM (ET/PT)
  • link Atlantic Records
  • Chris Howie directed the TV special → say "directed it" since "TV special" is already mentioned before
  • served as line producer → served as the line producer
  • Ben Winston said it was an "honor" to produce Mars first television special, while Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events at CBS affirmed that CBS was thrilled to broadcast Mars TV special. Sussman added, "He burns the roof off the Apollo while paying respect to its tradition and history."→ This isn't really any information we need. There are some impressions from the workers, but they are really not relevant in this context. I suggest you remove them.
Agree it sounds bias nontheless. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • On November 20, 2017, Mars shared a trailer for the show where he is shown with some of his bandmates, The Hooligans, interacting and greeting the locals, working in a kitchen and performing on top of the Apollo Theater's marquee → On November 20, 2017, Mars shared a trailer for the show depicting him and his bandmates The Hooligans interacting and greeting locals, working in a kitchen and performing on top of Apollo Theater's marquee.
  • Why isn't The Hooligans linked to this?
  • Mars confessed when he and his band were recording various scenes for the TV Special, they were told, sometimes, to "shut up" by people hanging out of their doors. He also said that only at this point in his career did he feel prepared to face the "brutal audience at the Apollo", as they, previously, had shown disapproval at "Amateur Night at the Apollo" → As I read in the source, this is about people hanging out their doors when he was making music outside their Apollo filming. They were walking the streets and giving imrpomptu performances there. If this is true, then this sentence needs to be removed since this is not the article's subject.
I remove the first sentence and re-wrote the second. Take a look. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:44, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mars said that when he and his band filmed the show, they were "a well-oiled machine". → This does not say anything we need to know, please remove

  • that only at this point in his career did he feel prepared → that only at this point in his career he had felt prepared
  • as they, previously, had shown → as it had previously shown
  • disapproval towards other artists → "rejection of other artists" sounds better
  • at "Amateur Night at the Apollo" → at another live event, Amateur Night at the Apollo (no need for "")
  • because it is a "magical place" → because it was a "magical place"
  • Connect the fourth paragraph with the third one

Synopsis

Solved comments
  • performing "24K Magic" atop the Apollo Theater's iconic marquee after traffic has been stopped on 125th Street → performing "24K Magic" atop the marquee after traffic had been stopped on 125th Street
  • "goofing" is not encyclopedic, please find another expression
  • and up close moments → same as before
  • his third studio album, 24K Magic (2016) → link the album here
  • During his performance of "Versace on the Floor" Mars moved around the stage without any choreography → this isn't anything to be noted. Please remove the sentence and add the song to the list in the last sentence
  • Before the last song is performed, the scene cuts to video of Mars and his band eating at Sylvia's Soul Food. → Before the last song is performed, footage of the singer and his band eating at Sylvia's Soul Food is shown.
  • link "Uptown Funk"
 Done

New comments

[edit]
  • Apollo Theater's iconic marquee → "iconic" needs to be removed; it strongly goes against WP:FANCRUFT
  • after traffic has been → after traffic had been
  • beginning with Mars saying → "beginning" is superfluous
  • Mars performs several → For a better flow: "Mars subsequently performs several"
  • At the end of the cover, he wishes → ...Mars wishes
  • with a black neckband collar → alongside a... (to avoid repeating "with")

Reception

[edit]
Solved comments
  • This should have a suming-up sentence, like in the lead
  • Petrusich also complemented Mars' vocal → Petrusich also complimented Mars' vocals
  • the cover of Jackie Wilson's "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" (1967), → his Jackie Wilson cover
  • We don't need the extra subsection, the section is already small enough, and the viewership and accolades also are part of "Reception"
  • on November 29, 2017, was → remove the second comma
  • In 2018, it was nominated at the → replace "it" with "the television special" since the way it stands now implies the rebroadcast was nominated
 Done

New comments

[edit]
  • Amanda Petrusich writing for The New Yorker praised → Amanda Petrusich, writing for The New Yorker, praised
  • saying "the strength of his performance of the song was undeniable." → saying "[...] [its] strength [...] was undeniable".
  • in the category of Outstanding Music Direction.[18] In 2019, it was nominated for Outstanding Variety Show - Series or Special at the 50th NAACP Image Awards → in the category of Outstanding Music Direction,[18] as well as for Outstanding Variety Show - Series or Special at the 50th NAACP Image Awards in 2019

Track listing

[edit]
Solved comments
  • It isn't clear at all what this tracklist is and which source this is taken from.
Not sure what you meant here with what it is? I added a source. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:07, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Personnel

[edit]
Solved comments
  • We don't need Bruno Mars linked here
  • All the names need to be sorted. Bruno Mars can stay first, but all the others need to be sorted by their last name
 Done

Release history and souvenir book

[edit]
Solved comments
  • I see you are doing this wrong in many of your articles. The "Release history" should only be a table with the releases. The text that you've written here belongs to a section named "Release", and needs to be mentioned at the beginning of the article. Please find a way to move this to the "Background" section, maybe rename it to "Background and release"
Sorry to tell you this, but you actually reviewed two of those. I will work on it, though. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:18, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Hey, now that I'm reading through my comments, I seem a bit grumpy — this was not my intention. I am willing to bring this to GA together with you. I also remember reviewing such articles, but back then I didn't know this wasn't the best option to structure the section(s). Cartoon network freak (talk) 16:21, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That makes two of us. I'm implementing such changes on those articles. I will also address the issues here too. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:26, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • includes the standard CD version, along with the remix of "Finesse" and → the article isn't about what the deluxe edition features; we should only know where the television special can be found
  • It was released in several European countries on June 29, 2018, via Atlantic Records.[18][19][20] It was also issued by Atlantic Records in the United Kingdom on July 6, 2018, and in Australia on July 13, 2018.[21][22] → We should only mention where and when something was first released. Anything else can be read by te ser in the table. No need for unnecessary text
  • You should nonetheless say: "by Warner Music Japan, and then eventually issued in several other territories by Atlantic Records"
  • was published that contains photographs of Mars and The Hooligans → was published, contains photographs of Mars and The Hooligans
  • and other never-before-seen photos, all shot by Florent Dechard → and other previously uneleased photos shot by Florent Dechard
  • You should remove the formats and edition from the table. It is confusing, since, for example, the TV special wasn't released on a CD but only the Bluray thing.
 Done

References

[edit]
Solved comments
  • In ref 4, please link the album title. You usually don't link stuff when it's the article's title, but this is not the case here
  • Please link Billboard, Amazon and CBS everywhere
If you only link once is more than enough. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 17:02, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • You use the "others" parameter wrong, it is not for the country. Please remove it, and do something like "Amazong (UK)"

 Done

You said there was a problem with the sourcing, but I cannot see it (apart from what is noted above). Please explain it to me,so we can work on it.

@Cartoon network freak: Regarding the reability of this source Soul Bounce. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 15:52, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would just leave out the source, since some aspects seem dubious to me. But I really don't know. The issue is two-sided.
Thank you for looking at it. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 18:30, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Outcome

[edit]
  • @MarioSoulTruthFan: So... I have reviewed the article. Sadly, it is quite far away from being listed at GA. There is weird writing, superfluous information and unclear things on several instances. However, I am willing to wait for you to address these issues so that I can check this again and, perhaps, promote. I'm wishing you a great Sunday, and see you soon; Cartoon network freak (talk) 07:54, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cartoon network freak: It was my first time writing an article of this kind. It was hard to find others that looked like this promoted to GA to get a good grasp of it. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 16:05, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cartoon network freak: Finished to adress your concerns, I left comments here and there so please take a look. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 18:25, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Hi! I have left secondary comments. The article is beginning to look a lot better now. Greets; Cartoon network freak (talk) 16:38, 6 April 2020 (UTC) [reply]
@Cartoon network freak: I believe I have address everyhting. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 18:30, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Thank you for sticking through this. I have made some closing changes on my own, and I strongly believe the article now meets GA criteria. Congratulations and greets; Cartoon network freak (talk) 18:54, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cartoon network freak: thank you for your time and patience. I just changed a little thing. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 18:58, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
