Hello! Taking a look at this article, I found the following issues:

Verification issues - partial paragraphs without citations

[edit]
  • The building: 1st paragraph (4 sentences), 10th paragraph (3 sentences)

Verification issues - full paragraphs without citations

[edit]
  • The building: 2nd to 9th paragraphs
  • History of its operations: 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th paragraphs

Summary: With The building section alone, there are 8 fully uncitied paragraphs. Adding the History of its operations uncited paragraphs gives 12 fully uncited paragraphs. As the tag in the lead states, "This article needs additional citations for verification."

Grammar/spelling

[edit]
  • By the time he graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1884...managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation." is too long to read as one sentence. I suggest breaking it up into multiple sentences.
  • "a unique opportunity" -> an unique opportunity
  • "Native stone, gathered from the summit of the Great Blue Hill, was used for the two-story tower, adjoining housing unit, and the east and west wings" - I think the first two commas can be dropped. The sentence sounds choppy with them.

Other issues per GA criteria

[edit]
  • One of the pictures at History of its operations is missing a caption (criteria #6a)
  • By the time he graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1884...managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation." is too long to read as one sentence. I suggest breaking it up into multiple sentences for grammar (criteria 1a)
  • The tone in the article seems a bit off for neturality. Examples include "in an age where so many weather records are flawed by environmental and procedural changes", "a record of uninterrupted climatological observations that is unique in the world", and "This era coincided with the end of the long career of the famous Director of the Observatory" (criteria #4)
  • Per Earwig, there is a lot of copying from National Park Service. Upon the Wikipedia article creation, the edit summary did say its from a public domain source. However, Template:NPS needs to be added to give Public Domain attribution to the "National Park Service article on the Observatory" link. (criteria 2d)

Suggestions

[edit]
  • "Rotch continued to work at the Blue Hill Observatory until his death on April 7, 1912. Under the terms of his will, the observatory was given to Harvard University with an endowment of $50,000 for operating costs." - As this is already mentioned in the Site section, I don't think it's needed to repeat in the History of its operations section.

Overall

[edit]

With the 12 uncited paragraphs, unattributed Public Domain copying and the additional citations tag, I will have to quickfail this per WP:GAFAIL. While there are some other issues such as grammar and neturality, the uncited paragraphs and unattributed copying are the larger issues that need fixing. Although I have not check every criteria, this article needs to have criteria 2c original research and 2d copyright violations fixed before this article is resubmitted to GAN. I hope this review encourages you to work on this article and renominate at a future time. Thank you for nominating this article at GAN :) --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 14:31, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
