  • "Blitzmail is technology that researchers think will soon be widely used on college campuses around the US". Remind me to NEVER, EVER, EVER enroll myself in the Dartmouth College CS department. Oh yeah, Delete Terrapin 20:14, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • neutral, this could make an interesting tech-history kind of article. This is the NYT article mentioned (but not linked): http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/14/technology/circuits/14blit.html (registration might be necessary), the system's apparently been around 20 years. --Ianb 20:18, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. If it's notable enough for the New York Times, it's certainly notable enough for a Wikipedia article. However, it needs a major re-write. Send to Cleanup. Kevyn 22:43, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Where? Where is it talked about in the NYT? I couldn't find it. Why isn't it an external link? Absurd! It's just a campus wireless network. Bully for them. Delete. Geogre 23:08, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
    • Uhhh, Geogre, the link is listed two posts above yours. Kevyn 23:30, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
      • It's not a wireless network, it's an email system, they were one of the first campuses in the US to implement such on a wide scale. Def. notable in History of tech.--Samuel J. Howard 01:23, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)
    • Fine, fine. Sorry for not seeing the link in the VfD voting. My pique at its not being in the article isn't relieved, but I'll say send to clean up to keep. Geogre 02:22, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Blitzmail is very cool. I've used it. Keep article. anthony (see warning) 14:36, 28 Aug 2004 (UTC)

alternate blitz clients

[edit]

I would like to suggest a mention of BlitzX, a MacOS X native (ie Cocoa, not Carbon) unofficial BlitzMail client developed by a Dartmouth student in the early 2000's and no longer available, but was really cool at the time. its interface took a lot of cues from Apple's Mail.app - it was definitely a significant departure from the standard Blitz paradigm.

google seems to indicate it was written by Paul Seligman, a Dartmouth student (class of '03?). perhaps development stopped upon his graduation. http://linux.dartmouth.edu/twiki/bin/view/Linux/BlitzMail

it was formerly available at this URL: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~seligman/BlitzX/

its existence is acknowledged in the following places: http://office.dartlog.net/archive/2003_01_05_index.html http://alumni.dartmouth.edu/services/email/blitzmail/download.html

anyone possessing a copy of the program or with more knowledge about its fate is encouraged to flesh this out. perhaps Mr. Seligman could be reached at [email protected] (hints google.)
