Controversies Section Removed?

[edit]

Was the section removed? What are the plans for the section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by BookishOwl (talkcontribs) 04:47, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Family

[edit]

Why is the fact his daughter was arrested for DWI relevant? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gracie1960 (talkcontribs) 02:48, 24 December 2010 (UTC) --gracie1960 (talk) 03:37, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date

[edit]

Can someone verify that he was "(born July 15, 1953)", the IP address 67.67.89.25 has been readily vandalizing in all but a few cases, such as this one, in which it is indertiminant if it is a vandlism or not. --ShaunMacPherson 14:27, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know where he would have gotten this information off-hand, as it's not on White's campaign site or his official bio on the City of Houston website. I would suggest deleting it until there is confirmation, considering that the IP belongs to a vandal. --Holdek (talk) 19:42, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

I just put in a birth date (June 16, 1954) that I found in an Associated Press article from LexisNexis, dated October 4, 2003. PBP 02:51, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stub?

[edit]

Would this article be classified as a stub? I think it's quite big now. Should we remove the stub? -Tcwd (talk) 19:59, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate Correction

[edit]

William Howard White, born Bexar County, Texas, 16 Jun 1954, son of William Byrd White and Gloria Avalon Howard.

Background Corrections

[edit]

Bill White was never a tort lawyer. Tort lawyers handle personal injury cases. At Susman Godfrey, Bill White practiced business litigation, primarily under federal antitrust and securities law. -- www.susmangodfrey.com / HouChron archives

Also, Frontera Resources is by no means an unsuccessful company. It recently had a public offering in London, and is operating in emerging markets around the world, with an exclusive development project currently underway in the country of Georgia. --fronteraresources.com / www.lse.co.uk

I'll change it from "tort" to "plaintiff" lawyer.
Also, Frontera Resources might now be successful, but White's participation in it was not successful. From The Houston Press, "Is This Guy Too Smart To Be Mayor?"
"'I have not made one penny, one dime, from activities in the Caspian Sea…"' Of course, a company that loses money for investors is not quite a free-enterprise role model...."
I'll make a change to reflect this. Holdek (talk) 18:43, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Frontera Resources was (and is) a long term investment. The fact that it is doing well shows that Bill White's leadership and vision was strong from the outset. Early setbacks are not uncommon for oil & gas ventures, they require heavy capital up front and often, as is the case here, operate in less than optimal conditions. In short, the returns are long-term, and Frontera is now seeing those as a result of Bill White's vision. I think that should be accurately reflected.

Also I think its important to note, while we are discussing his business acumen, that the majority of Bill White's business career was at the helm of the immensely successful WEDGE Group.

Nonetheless, while White was head of of Frontera it was not successful, and this was notable enough for the Press to go into. But upon reading the paragraph it does seem to single out that episode of his career, so I'll delete the wording. Holdek (talk) 22:18, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Plaintiff's lawyer" is an unduly limited term to describe Mayor White's role at Susman. Also I think its important to acknowledge his leadership during the Hurricanes. That is a critical aspect of his public life. There is a large body of journalism that supports this addition to the page.

Cleanup

[edit]

This article is in desperate need of cleanup and needs to be rewritten with the tone of an encyclopedia\(Ehburrus 01:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Still in serious need of cleanup. Reads like a press release or campaign literature. — ERcheck (talk) 04:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I cleaned up some of it and added lots of stuff but there is still a cleanup needed. The controversies section needs a cleanup and citations. Also the section on his first term has a paragraph about the safeclear program that looks like it was copy and pasted here, the formatted is bad, there are not spaces between lots of the words. and there is no citation for it. At a minimum it needs to be fixed and cited and maybe moved to the controversies section. Also it seems to be more about the safeclear program than about bill white, maybe it should be deleted? Also there is only two pictures of bill white on here and one of them is just a cropped version of the other. Doesn't someone have any photos of him? (kylelovesyou 08:27, 03 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Fixed a lot of this stuff (kylelovesyou 13:37, 22 March 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Removed material in violation of WP:LIVING

[edit]

The recent edits that were removed did not adhere to the policy on biographies of living persons. Controversial material of any kind that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous. Postoak 23:18, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies

[edit]

Sections of the controversies section needs some additional citations. The second paragraph, about a woman who hired a fake "bill white" to run to confuse voters, this section has been removed a couple times before and placed back up. not sure if this belongs here or not. THe paragraph definitely needs to be rewritten though. It includes the phrase "it smelled of dirty politics". This phrase does not belong in an encyclopedia. It is an opinion and an attack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kylelovesyou (talkcontribs) 22:53, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to "Internet Networking" section

[edit]

This section mentioned Bill White's and his wife's Facebook pages but didn't have any sources, so I added their Facebook pages as sources, I hope this is okay, I figured they were reliable so I thought I would be bold and put them in. Also I changed the section title from "Internet Networking" to "Social Networking" as I believe this is a more common version of the term. Anyway, I just thought I should put down my changes here. I Feel Tired (talk) 04:37, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Occupation

[edit]

I changed White's occupation from businessman to politician. He's never run a business in his life, so it didn't make sense to have it up there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dexter099 (talkcontribs) 01:27, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Book by Bill White

[edit]

Bill White is the author of a significant book, America's Fiscal Constitution: Its Triumph and Collapse. Shouldn't this book be mentioned somewhere on his Wikipedia page? I don't know if this is allowed, by the Amazon link is http://www.amazon.com/Americas-Fiscal-Constitution-Triumph-Collapse/dp/1610393430.

This is not a deliberate attempt to either change the Bill White page or violate any Wikipedia rules. Please post suggestions for the correct approach. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pschaeffer (talkcontribs) 04:36, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
