Algerian[edit]

"Erza was born to French parents in Algiers. She studied voice in Italy and France. In 1920, she moved to the United States ..." – How is she Algerian? Just being born there doesn't maker her so, especially as there was no Algerian state at the time. I suggest to remove the Algerian category and project template. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:27, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Except in almost every source the fact that she is from Algeria is always mentioned. I say leave it until more citations and information can be established. — BrillLyle (talk) 12:30, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Question — would listing her as French-Algerian address your concerns, versus the current breakout of French People and Algerian People? — BrillLyle (talk) 12:38, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
She was French-Algerian (so that's how she's described in the first line of the article). She visited Algiers and France as an adult when she was "homesick". ( See "Berthe Erza Sails" Musical Monitor (September 1922): 371.) WikiProject Algeria lists its scope as covering "articles related to the nation of Algeria, its cities, counties, geography, transportation, culture, history and so on." Erza was born in Algiers and spent her youth there. She was billed as Algerian in her publicity. WikiProject Algeria can always remove their banner if they prefer not to include this article. - Penny Richards (talk) 12:52, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There are currently 2 categories in this article: Category:Algerian singers and Category:Sopranos. I'm concerned about the first because she wasn't Algerian, but French. Whether the article should be in the Wikiproject(s) Algeria (or Unites States) is up to those projects. Compare the early life of Anna Milder-Hauptmann who was born in Constantinople, but that doesn't make her Turkish. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:47, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
