General editing note

[edit]

I've been trying to fill in the open stubs on Lighthouses in the United States. Researching this tells me that the definative data about many of these lights is already published by [Terry Pepper]. Editors should comment on the strength / weakness of this presentation (IMHO, 'simple, but not much "here"' vs 'nice synopsis, but most of it's quotations from "others on the web"').

Examples of earlier (items that don't follow this proposed new model) pages are Saginaw River Lighthouse or Fort Gratiot Lighthouse. Charles W. Bash 22:42, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CW, I and some of my cooperating editors have been trying to rework the Michigan lighthouse articles to make them more comprehensive. Because there are so many, it takes a lot of time and effort. Take a look at what we've done. I think that all of the relevant on line sources are listed, so they can easily be compared. We've put in the Michigan lights navigation box, and the lighthouse infobox. More pictures have been added. This project is ongoing (and has spread to some of the lighthouses in neighboring states.) We're still adding text, but that is just going to take a lot of time -- although with the on line souress linked it, almost anybody could do it. If you click on the navbox, you can take a look at what we've done. If you have suggestions, they are most welcome. Best regards and happy editing. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 02:34, 25 August 2008 (UTC) Stan[reply]

Terry Pepper's Research

[edit]

I support the historical information that Terry Pepper posts on his website and believe that it is accurate. I live here and go to school on the south end of the island where the charlevoix school district took over and made a school. If you need any information on The Beaver Head Lighthouse. I also have updated pictures of the Lighthouse, fog signal and station barn. I'm actually spending the night in the quarters of the lighthouse tonight. I will be glad to provide what accurate information I can. In the meantime, e-mail me at [email protected] if any questions arise. Thank you for your time in reading my comment.

Coordinates needed

[edit]

This article needs coordinates. Thanks. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 02:25, 25 August 2008 (UTC) Stan[reply]

I've added the coordinates that I found here, but there appears to be a problem since this is a list of Charlevoix County sites. The infobox states that the light is near Ludington which is in Mason county, right? The two of those are pretty far apart. Which bit is wrong? ⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 13:40, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've placed something that at least works for the moment into the infobox. I couldn't figure out if the light was in Peaine township or St. James, or another on Beaver Island...but it isn't in Ludington. ⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 14:01, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
There were eleven entries in the "External links". Three seems to be an acceptable number and of course, everyone has their favorite to add for four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.
  • ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
  • LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
  • WP:ELMIN: Minimize the number of links.
  • WP:ELCITE: access dates are not appropriate in the external links section. Do not use {{cite web}} or other citation templates in the External links section. Citation templates are permitted in the Further reading section.
  • WP:ELBURDEN: Disputed links should be excluded by default unless and until there is a consensus to include them. -- Otr500 (talk) 22:00, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
