[edit]Should this be the location of the disambiguation page, or redirect to San Francisco Bay Area? Note that it can not redirect to the disambig page, as that would constitute a malplaced disambiguation page. Cheers! bd2412 T 13:52, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think it should redirect to the San Francisco Bay Area, because what consitutes the Bay area in one's mind is dependent on location. For example, for me "the Bay Area" is the Tampa Bay Area because that's where I live. I think it constitutes a minor opinion to redirect to the SFBA. I can see you point about malplaced disam page though. CRRaysHead90 | Another way... 20:17, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- Keep redirect to San Francisco Bay Area, no change to disambiguation. The Tampa Bay Area is far, far more often Tampa Bay Area than Bay Area. When I searched Google Books for Tampa + "Bay Area", I only found the whole string: Tampa Bay Area. When I searched for Florida + "Bay Area", the only good result was Frommer's Florida where the Tampa Bay area is referred to once as "Florida's bay area", but never solely "Bay Area" in capital letters. - To what extent do searches for just "Bay Area" turn up the San Francisco Bay Area without prefacing it with "San Francisco"? bd2412 T 00:02, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- It's hard to quantify precisely, but almost exclusively, like 98%. Bing search offers the option of searching from the specified locations of the UK, Canada, Australia or New Zealand (any country, really) and those searches virtually always return results from the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the many results was about a development called Cardiff Bay in Cardiff, Wales; three results about the Galveston Bay area in Texas, USA; one from Coos Bay in Oregon, USA; and one other link was to the Grand Traverse Bay area in Michigan, USA. This is among hundreds of SFBA results. Without the search term "Tampa", I have yet to run into a "Bay Area" which references Tampa Bay. Binksternet (talk) 01:02, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm satisfied with that. San Francisco Bay Area already has a redirect tag on top, so anyone looking for another meaning will have that option right in front of them. bd2412 T 02:16, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- This is not about just Tampa Bay Area though. This is about all the Bay Area's linked to this disam page. One might not be looking up San Fran. I think it's easier and considers everyone just to have Bay Area as a disam page. CRRaysHead90 | Another way... 23:19, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Let's fix all the incoming links first, and see where they point as we go. bd2412 T 23:49, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

- I'd say it should be a disambig page. We have to be careful to globalise the project and not US/Anglo-size it. fr33kman 02:02, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Is there sufficient evidence that there is any other place, in any country, known primarily as "the Bay Area" (as opposed to "the Foo Bay Area")? bd2412 T 02:42, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Primarily? No, none. A few locations such as the ones I listed above are also known by the term 'Bay Area', but not primarily. Binksternet (talk) 06:08, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
