House?

[edit]

Basement Jaxx is not House, or at least not exclusively House.

Dude, basement jaxx is house, what else could it be? And for the love of god don't say disco, Jrschro

No they're not pure house or garage; they're decent dance music, I'd call them electronica mabye modern disco/funk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.137.176.70 (talk) 11:44, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Critism

[edit]

Recent comments in the press by the Basement Jaxx have lead some believe that the group represents part of the decline of the dance/electronic scene. Ignoring the fact that Kraftwerk, the original Chicago House scene and techno scenes of Detroit all considered themselves "avantgarde" at one point, Basement Jaxx have made it clear that "progressive" or more artistic types are not welcome at their shows. This type of attitude as well as the hardening of incidental fracturalization shows that the dance/electronic scene of today bears little resemblance to the bold, adventurous, inclusive and openminded scene of earlier days. Today's dance scene looks more like the American Republican party or a frustrated soda pop company guarding shrinking market share.

Quite Complaining!!

How come theres no mention of the old skool hardcore tunes they used to produce under the name 'Ephemeral'?

Yeah there's no way that can go in the article. Especially toward the end... Ventifact63.226.230.76 21:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remixes

[edit]

'They are rumoured to have been approached to remix "Hung up", the first single of Madonna's new album Confessions on a Dancefloor.' -- Did they? It's now four months later, surely now they either have or they haven't?

Missing EPs

[edit]

there's a bunch of Jaxx EPs listed here: [1] Should they be added? I don't know the years, etc Macdougal 18:10, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"do your thing" currently theme song for Telus tv commercial - Dec. 2006. "do your thing" also played in "CSI:Miami" one episode.

What are they currently doing?

[edit]

"They are currently developing their next album, which is yet to be titled and will be released in early 2006."

...

"Basement Jaxx are currently on tour with Robbie Williams and will headline their own UK arena tour this winter."

Both? Recording the album while on tour with Robbie?

...

New album out soon called Scars (May-June 2009)

Mis-advertised?

[edit]

I checked through the number one US dance singles, and i found no basement jaxx tracks listed. Is this a misprint on that article or the basement jaxx article? Joschro

Temporary list of singles/EPs

[edit]

Since the gallery of singles/EPs was removed due to the images being unsourced, I have added a list in place of it. I suggest however this should only be temporary, and swapped back once the image sourcing issue is sorted. Cheers Starguitar 16:10, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Basement Jaxx-Atlantic Jaxx Recordings Vol 2.jpg

[edit]

Image:Basement Jaxx-Atlantic Jaxx Recordings Vol 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merged trivia section with main content

[edit]

I had a go at merging the trivia section into the main content. A few bits which I didn't feel particularly notable were removed - I've copied all of the old trivia section below, just in case.

  • "Red Alert" was used in a Nickelodeon (TV channel) commercial.
  • "Red Alert" was used in a Coca-Cola commercial in the late 1990s.
  • "Red Alert" was also used in the movie Bend It Like Beckham all though it is not on the official movie soundtrack, but is listed in the credits.
  • "Where's Your Head At?" was featured on the soundtrack for the 2001 'Tomb Raider' movie, was used for a Pringles commercial, featured in the Xbox video game Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX 3, and Traktor's video for "Where's Your Head At?" (monkeys with human faces) has been praised by Mixmag as the best dance music video ever made. It relies on a sample of Gary Numan's "M.E." for its hook
  • "Good Luck" is also in the soundtrack of Just Married, and Appleseed, an anime movie released in 2004.
  • The video for "U Don't Know Me" featured a drunken, carousing, and violent Queen Elizabeth II lookalike and was banned from daytime rotation on MTV.
  • The Jaxx Club Remix of 'Do Your Thing' was included in the video game SSX 3. Do your thing was also used in an episode of Heroes.
  • The video for the song "Romeo" from the album "Rooty" is based on a Bollywood movie.
  • "Where's Your Head At?" was featured on a Promo for Gorden Ramsey's (Hell's Kitchen) on the channel MBC4.
  • Buxton's Father is the padre for 1181 ATC squadron in Syston, Leicestershire.

Recent history

[edit]

Needs clarification of recent history - Scars has been released, was it on Atlantic Jaxx, did it feature Grace Jones? No mention of Zephyr either. Murkeychris (talk) 06:12, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the last paragraph in the history section needs to be removed as its still speaking in future tense and that album is now 3 years old. -- RND  T  C  09:57, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Heartists

[edit]

The page The Heartists redirects to this article. But, what's the link? I think that the members of The Heartists were Savino Martinez and Claudio Coccoluta, not Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton. Elfast (talk) 15:51, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
