Merge proposal: Banishment (disambiguation) to here[edit]

Clear room for confusion between Banish, Banished and Banishment, and as there are few entries they would perhaps be better served on the one page. Boleyn (talk) 19:19, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you truly believe that, then Banished should redirect to Exile as well, and this dab page should be at Banished (disambiguation). Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 19:34, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Or Banish (disambiguation). Or heck, why not Banish/Banished/Banishment. Just to clear the confusion. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 19:36, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Your suggestions are about potential page name changes/moves; not relevant to this discussion. Boleyn (talk) 21:31, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How are they not relevant? You are saying that The Banishment should contain an entry on this page, instead of a link in the hatnote on Exile since "banishment redirects there. Same as for Banesh, which is alternately spelled as "Banish". Why make potential readers searching for the film or the village go to Exile and then a disambiguation page? BanishedBanished (disambiguation) – Banished is another variant of Banish/Banishment/Banishing, the former of which are WP:PRIMARYREDIRECTs to Exile, while the latter currently constitutes a separate WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, though it might be wiser to disambiguate it. Either way, as none of the current contents of this DAB page here constitutes a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, banished should be redirected to exile as well. This doesn't infer or preclude a possible merge with Banish (disambiguation). -- PanchoS (talk) 21:17, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, with alternative suggestion: It's perfectly normal for a disambiguation to be at the "bare" page name, without "(disambiguation)" tacked on. We only add that when the bare name goes to a non-disambiguation article. Note that Banishing is not a redir to Exile. It would make more sense to send Banish and all variants of it (Banishment, Banishing, Banished) to a single DAB page at Banish, being a unified disambiguation page pointing to all the entries: Exile, Banish (spirituality) (i.e., the present Banishing article, a rename which would also obviate the confusion between alleged real, spiritual magic[k], and stage magic/illusionism), albums named Banished, etc., etc., as needed.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:24, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • That would indeed be the other reasonable option we have. If other people tend to prefer SMcCandlish's solution, I'd be fine with it. --PanchoS (talk) 11:24, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose redirecting to exile per WP:NOTDICT. Am neutral about other options such as that proposed by  User:SMcCandlish above. —  AjaxSmack  14:22, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – I see no need to point all conjugation variants of a verb to the action denoted by this verb. Pointing to works of fiction bearing this exact title is more useful to readers. The See Also section in the current page already points to the dictionary meaning. This reminds me of the recent discussion on Redhead, which was proposed for redirection to Red hair as primary topic, although there are plenty of things and people named "Redhead" which would be obscured by the move (and a person is not synonymous with her hair). Perhaps we should refine the WP:PTOPIC guidelines for such cases. — JFG talk 07:52, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
