Wikipedia articles are live[edit]

Article commentary doesn't belong on an article. Article spaces are live spaces, and as such, articles are consider "complete." Unlike other wikis, commentary should not go on a Wikipedia page to be integrated in as people read the article. Instead, such commentary should go on a talk page. Is there an exact number? Yes. I'll get the sources for it. The issue I have is that I've got two sources saying two different totals for how many sports Australia competed in in the 1996 games. I chose one. Hanging sentences shouldn't go in either because again, live spaces. If not caught, that could end up in an article for years. Example of this? Karissa Whitsell article said she was currently competing in the 2008 Paralympics until June 9, 2011. :) Just one of these cultural things that makes Wikipedia different than other projects. --LauraHale (talk) 10:48, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Results for Australia at Atlanta[edit]

Medal Count[edit]

Based on the IPC records of 1996 Atlanta results for Australian athletes where they total medals as per athlete, I count 62 gold, 43 silver, and 28 bronze. This is significantly different to the numbers in the infobox and the Medal Count section. I can't access the reference used to figure the count there at the moment (Webster, Jim (1996). "Success for superteam". Golden days of Atlanta : Xth Paralympic Games Atlanta, Georgia, August 15–25, 1996 (Sydney: Australian Paralympic Federation): 6–8.), and the article does not say if it's numbers are based on team results instead of Athletes. I'm not sure what is standard in tallying the medal count, but I note that the Wikipedia entry for Olympic medal table states that medal tallies are unofficial, yet when done it is based on total medals as per athlete. I'm obviously confused. I went to the 1996 Summer Paralympics medal table where it also cites the IPC website, but goes to the Medal Standings Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games. I haven't yet worked out why it also says 42 golds for Australia, where as the IPC records of 1996 Atlanta results for Australian athletes says 62 gold. It must be that medal counts are based on teams not individual athletes, but it doesn't say that anywhere that I can see so far. Leighblackall (talk) 07:12, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gold medal winners[edit]

There are quite a few gold medal winners who haven't been mentioned yet. Unless we have some criteria for who is and who isnt going to be mentioned, I think all gold medal winners should be mentioned otherwise they will wonder why they were not mentioned when so many others were. Agreed John. I think in Brisbane, we agreed we would create pages for all medal winners, which means making sure they are all mentioned in the related Games and Events pages. That International Paralympic Committee reference I've been using (linked above) is a good source, and easy to use. Its just a little time consuming checking off between this wiki page and it. sports[edit]

At the top of the sports section we should list the sports that we did not compete in.

Which sports didn't we compete in? We currently dont mention Archery, and if I understand this correctly, the omission of Australia in that table means we didnt compete in that sport. John Vandenberg (chat) 03:08, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
