Requested move

Arbil used to have what is now at Arbil Governorate. I moved it there, and made Arbil a redirect to the city after which the governorate was named, which is at Arbil, Iraq. As the city takes precedence over the governorate, and no disambiguation with similar Arbils is needed, the city should be at Arbil. Gareth Hughes 13:48, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

I've restricted the sentence relating to this as it is hardly established fact, has no source and is disputed. I've done the same with Damascus, for the same reason. --Si42 14:59, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Picture

The text for the picture of the "qala" or Castle is wrong.

1. It's not a castle, it's a wall. built on a hill to defend the city. 2. It is NOT ottoman the wall out-dates the ottomans by centuries or even milleniums. The wall even protected the city from Gengis Khan's armies.

Iran Consulate?

"January 11, 2007 - Iranian consulate in Arbil was seized by US army."

Whether the building is a real consulate, and whether the five men arrested are consular employees, is in question, and should not be presented as fact. TPOBrien 23:55, 15 January 2007 (UTC)kurdistan is the best country !

Population

At the top we say "In 2005, its estimated population was 990,000 inhabitants." In the box it says Population (2005 Est.) - Total 1,300,000 Should these be changed/sourced? I have tried but been unable to find reliable info (Msrasnw (talk) 11:13, 27 March 2008 (UTC))

Some new content

I can not provide many things, but the least I can do is give some advice. As the article stands, I feel it puts too much emphasis on its history and its Christian roots, but not so much on the city's current conditions. If we look at another article, say like Dallas or Munich, there is a lot of information on its architecture, communities, and other aspects of urban life. If the article develops at all, I'd suggest moving the history into a separate article and leaving a small stub with a link in the city article. --MercZ (talk) 03:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hewler original name?

How can one say (and why would one say) that the original name is "Hewler"? The name in Syriac is "Arbel"? I feel like this is taking sides on a political issue (whether it is a Kurdish or an Arabic city), a dispute we should aim to simply avoid. Alawi (talk) 18:00, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
