Misleading information about Amanda Georgiadis Tenfjord[edit]

There has been on many accounts people changing her information with wrong and false information about iher identity. Either of non Greek speakers or people with misleading information. I have on many times tried to correct the information that she personally provided on Greek interviews on TV and in magazines and newspapers. Amanda herself has said "I was born in Ioannina Epirus Greece", and moved with her family to Norway at the age of 3 as migrants. Her family had moved for a better future and work. Even Wikipedia in Greek claims she was born in Ioannina Greece. https://el.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%91%CE%BC%CE%AC%CE%BD%CF%84%CE%B1_%CE%93%CE%B5%CF%89%CF%81%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%AC%CE%B4%CE%B7

These are some links with her claim of birth being in Greece. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XTTxTrcsrgM

She was born in Greece according to ERT: https://eurovision.ert.gr/amanta-georgiadi-viografiko/ Ερευνητής Αλήθειας (talk) 16:39, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Don't forget that subjects themselves are not reliable sources on their date or place of birth unless there is an actual independent reliable source backing it up, and it looks like these sources are merely repeating what she has said. Otherwise we'd have to believe every celebrity who claims they're younger than they actually are. Black Kite (talk) 18:43, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unless one has access to personal medical or Birth records that are prohibited by the public, their word and the information they provide is what we have to go on. A newspaper as another user by the name Kimern9 has used as evidence is the same kind of resource as a magazine or online information! They provide an article that says she was baptized in Norway but then in every interview she has given she clearly mentions she was born in Greece, Ioannina to be exact and her family moved to her mother's home town in Norway when she was 3 years old. Honestbro.32 (talk) 13:00, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, but we actively don't use the subject's own claims when there is doubt as to their authenticity, which there clearly is here - see WP:BLPSELFPUB point 4. This is, if you think about it, completely logical - otherwise any subject of a BLP could get it changed to their own preferred state purely by saying "No, that information is wrong, it's actually this". Black Kite (talk) 13:07, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Black Kite The links provided are interviewed of Amanda stating her birth place being in Ioannina Greece. Even her family claim the same. The Greek Government and Broadcasting network which is ownd by the Government ERT recognise her identity been born in Greece. Tenfjord is not even her Surname! That is the township from where her mother is from in Norway. Unless you personally have access to her personal information making claims against a person is defamation of identity which can be prosecuted by law by an individualif they choose too! An article in a newspaper is not a reliable source just as any information on Wikapedia which anyone can change and write what they like. Same as on Google and the Internet which is 95% fake! Personal documents and testimonials are evidence of one's statement! To me so far most of you her are simply her to damage her Career and not truly her to support her.if her interviews and statements of her where that she was born in Norway, then there would be no argument.! Name[edit]

I find it highly unlikely that Amanda's real last name is Tenfjord, which coincides with the name of the village she moved to. Her father is Greek (Georgiadis) so she would typically take that as her last name. Per the Greek broadcaster, her name is Amanda Georgiadis [1][2][3]. Also extremely convincing to me is her official website, which mentions her as Amanda Georgiadis in the about section [4]. Are there other reputable sources out there that show her birth name as something else? I would guess she either added her mother's maiden name (if that's what it is) or the village name to the end to aid in international appeal Grk1011 (talk) 00:01, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Grk1011: It is complicated because Scandinavian name laws are quite liberal and you can change your name rather easily. Norwegian media usually says that "Amanda Klara Georgiadis Tenfjord" is her real name. Assuming that Tenfjord is her mother's name, this would be nothing uncommon. And well, many Norwegian last names refer to a place. Greek media usually says that Tenfjord is only her stage name. Maybe her official name in Greece is without "Tenfjord" because their laws are different or whatever. What makes me think that in Norway at least at some point "Tenfjord" must have been her real name is when you search the Norwegian library: "Amanda%20Tenfjord"&mediatype=aviser&viewability=ALL. There are instances of the "Tenfjord" name in newspapers way before she probably would think about getting a stage name. Also some Norwegian media explicitly stated that her full name is "Amanda Klara Georgiadis Tenfjord" and there are other occurrences where I think the stated name is probably her real name as it is kind of in an official context. I want to stress that I did not find these things trying obsessively to find out any detail, it just stuff I often come across during research for Norwegian people. --CaroFraTyskland (talk) 07:49, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PS: The link is not working correctly and I don't know how to fix it. The correct URL is in the source code anyway. --CaroFraTyskland (talk) 07:55, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's fairly obvious that she goes by the full name in most contexts these days, which is why I feel this article is already appropriately named as "Amanda Tenfjord", as this appears to be the most common. As this is a biographical article though, it is also important to at least mention her birth name, whether or not it was legally changed or replaced by a stage name. Grk1011 (talk) 17:01, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just a quick note that if we are going to mention something as a "birth name" we need sources which establish this. If there is dispute between sources on what her birth name is, we should mention both. We cannot assume something is her birth name just because it's common for a child to take their father's family name. And a source saying X is her name is not the same thing as a source saying X is her birth name. Nil Einne (talk) 15:51, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Amanda Tenfjord Birth name is "Amanda Georgiadis" as for Klarathat someone has added there is no 100% proof to prove it to back it up.

The name Tenfjord comes from the town she grew up in Norway adopting it as her stage name in Norway as she has said in interviews "I adopted the Name Amanda Tenfjord as Georgiadis was difficult for Norwegians to pronounce".

As of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest she has adopted back adding her real name and adding Tenfjord as "Amanda Georgiadis Tenfjord". Honestbro.32 (talk) 20:31, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Honestbro.32.
You are wrong about this. I have found an article from 31st of October 1998 from "Bygdebladet" that on page 4 says she was baptized at the church of Vatne,_Møre_og_Romsdal in Norway with the name "Amanda Klara Georgiadis Tenfjord". It may be that Amanda isn't sharing all the details in the interviews which makes them less reliable. The newspaper is accessable for the public so you can confirm it here: https://www.nb.no/items/357b9adec4e83bb869173cba259088a9?page=3&searchText=%22Amanda%20Klara%22
You can find her name under the heading "Døypt". Døypt is Norwegian and means "baptized". The names below "Vatne" in bold letters are babies that were baptized at that church.
I have now provided strong sources for her being baptized in Norway and the article is strongly sourced with record of her being born at a Norwegian hospital. Her father also lived and worked in Norway 6 years before he and Amanda's mother moved to Greece. Kimern9 (talk) 22:28, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Kimern9 All you have provided is an article about a Baptism date and no information or proof of her birth! Tenfjord is a name that her mothers family have for the township she lived in Norway. Honestbro.32 (talk) 12:13, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Honestbro.32, You wrote above Amanda Tenfjord Birth name is "Amanda Georgiadis" as for Klara that someone has added there is no 100% proof to prove it to back it up.
That is wrong, which begs the question if the rest of your sources are as weak.
I have just given a strong source that she was baptized in Norway with the name "Amanda Klara Georgiadis Tenfjord". This means that the family frequently visited Norway while living in Greece during her first years.
Please leave further discussion about her birth place in the section I made below. Kimern9 (talk) 13:37, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kimern9 The Article you provided is on 31st October for a Baptism and no information of her birth.! Amanda her self 'Again" has stated she was born in Greece. Unless you can find her Greek records you are basically calling Amanda a liar.! Which is hurting her identity. Medical records are not published to the public or non family members, so it is quite puzzling with your claims and proof! Honestbro.32 (talk) 12:22, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
