[edit]this whole article sounds like a promotion... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.116.140.110 (talk) 19:46, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think that mainly refers to the paragraph "artists who use A. guitars". f.i. Glen Hansard plays Takamine mostly. Moovie (talk) 09:24, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
not even a proper stub
[edit]The original parent of Alvarez, Saint Louis Music, doesn't have an article. The current overarching owner, LOUD Technologies, barely has a stub.
Here, not much happens between 1965 and 2005 except the name change. Speaking of which: that has big problems. The LOUD article says Alvarez-Yairi began 1968, not 1965 as indicated here. And the opening looks to be saying that ALL instruments were "Westone" before becoming "Alvarez."
The whole "players" section might have to be disappeared. Unless refs can be provided to show that someone has made an endorsement deal, or appeared in an ad or catalogue or magazine cover or whatever, it's hearsay at best.

- For inclusion in any updates. Alvarez made electric guitars (notably the Dana) and basses (notably the Villain), and likely banjos. They presetly have ukuleles, and h/b electrics.

- FFI, here's a good brief history of SLM (pre-LOUD), largely taken from a book they published in 1997 to mark their 75th year: http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/st-louis-music-inc-history/ (It's also referenced in LOUD Technologies.) Though Alvarez gets short shrift, it DOES set the origin at 1968.

- Now the date becomes clear. Per the SLM site (http://www.stlouismusic.com/brand/alvarez/), the Alvarez brand name was established 1965. However, the relationship with Kazuo Yairi was established "in the late 60's" (their punctuation, not mine). I will (eventually get around to) revise the present article to reflect this.

- Update — someone has made a good start with St. Louis Music, creators of the Alvarez brand.
