Local rumour "for the record"

The local rumour in Zhuhai is roughly as follows. (certain)

The man was a former government official. (certain)

He had married a woman who was about 10 years younger than him. (certain)

There was some kind of scheme to divorce "on paper", the implication being that this was to obtain some kind of favorable status in the system (eg. being allowed to own additional houses, or whatever). As part of this there was on paper wealth transfer. Such things are not uncommon in China. (vague)

Then it turned out his wife had been seeing another, younger man and he became aware of this. (certain)

There had been a court case to argue about the wealth transfer, in which the court upheld the wealth should remain with his ex-wife. (vague)

This apparently drove the man to attack them, they were the actual target. The 33 other people who died were just collateral damage. (certain)
