2015 University of Louisville basketball sex scandal → University of Louisville basketball scandal – Considering that this scandal caused a national championship to be vacated and started the process of ending Rick Pitino's career (but the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball corruption scandal ultimately did him in), I think the sex scandal should be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "University of Louisville basketball scandal".
However, it can be argued that Louisville's involvement in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball corruption scandal is also relevant enough in the basketball program's history to be matched with this topic. In that case, including "2015" in the sex scandal article title is rather misleading, because the scandal involved events from 2010-14 and continued until the NCAA's punishments in 2018. So would "University of Louisville basketball sex scandal" suffice?
My proposal of a simpler "University of Louisville basketball scandal" title is based on other Wikipedia article titles about college sports scandals: Syracuse University athletics scandal and University of Michigan basketball scandal for instance. - Support, as the scandal is about improper gifts to athletes. That the gifts were hiring women dancers and sex workers is incidental to the topic as the gifts could have been trips, theater tickets, or other illegally given benefits. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:04, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support. This is the only article specifically about Louisville. 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball corruption scandal can be linked in a hatnote (if at all), and the DAB page (currently at University of Louisville basketball scandal) is not needed. - Oppose. The problem with naming this article by the title of "University of Louisville basketball scandal" is that it is overly generalist and, by WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, would imply that when someone refers to the "University of Louisville basketball scandal", this is the scandal that they're referring to. But 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball corruption scandal is an even more prominent scandal, and "University of Louisville basketball scandal" often refers to that scandal instead, so this article should have a more specific title to make clear to which scandal it is referring. I'm not saying it necessarily needs to be its current title, but it should be something more specific than the overly ambiguous "University of Louisville basketball scandal". —Lowellian (reply) 05:35, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per Lowellian. The fact is that there are two prominent scandals that could be referred to as the "University of Louisville basketball scandal". This one could be "2015 University of Louisville basketball scandal", since as noted the issue wasn't just sex, it was paying for illegal benefits.--Cúchullain t/c 15:49, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose an unnecessary ambiguation of three scandals that are discussed on Wikipedia (don't forget the 1956 scandal) with no apparent benefit for readers. For readers, the current title seems more clear and straightforward. The renaming would seem to imply that there has been (and will be) only one UofL basketball scandal. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:28, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
