A terrorist attack occurred in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso, on 2 March 2018. Targets reportedly included the French Embassy and the military headquarters.[1] Local police believe jihadists to be behind the attack, which involved the use of gunfire and at least one car bomb.[2] Five of the extremists were killed at the embassy and at least three were killed near the army headquarters, according to Danjuinou, the communications minister.[3] 28 people have been killed and about 50 others wounded.[4]

To the west of the capital, heavy smoke rose from the army joint chief of staff’s office, where witnesses reported loud explosions. Windows were broken there and in the surrounding buildings.[5]
