Introductory Message

Hello, everyone! While I welcome any discussion here about the nature of my edits or about how I can help anyone else in any way on Wikipedia, at the same time, within the last couple of months, several people who have posted comments for me here have not taken the time to mention the page related to the nature of the concerns they are expressing. If I can ask this of you all, I'd very much appreciate it if, going forward, anyone leaving feedback here would please specifically mention the exact page and edit about which you have come here to dialogue. And because I have always tried to live by the philosophy that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable, I'd also appreciate it if the discussions here can remain of a civil, polite, and agreeable tone. That will do more to enable me to provide the best feedback I can in response than will any other approach. I appreciate your cooperation with me on this. With that said, let the discussions continue here as needed! --Jgstokes (talk) 03:58, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Preferred Personal Pronouns

My preferred personal pronouns are he/him/his. I am more than happy to refer to each of you, my fellow editors, by your preferred pronouns as long as I know what they are. I have unfortunately unintentionally misgendered people here in the past, and I'd prefer not to make that same mistake ever again. Thanks for your cooperation with me on this matter. --Jgstokes (talk) 22:33, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Callings in general

It would be fortuitous to start listing callings "in general", such as within area presidencies, temples, or missions. It might require some work (perhaps needing a draft article). I would have them on their own page and include any callings, but still noting "priesthood" or other callings as such. Altanner1991 (talk) 04:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, may I ask whether you still need this and other copy articles? WP:COPYARTICLE says they should not be kept indefinitely. You can tag them with {{db-author}} if you have finished and would like them to be deleted. – Fayenatic London 14:53, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:LDS change discussion

A change to a provision at MOS:LDS regarding capitalization in titles is currently being discussed at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters § Midsentence capitalization of the that you might be interested in. Please participate in the discussion there, thanks. --FyzixFighter (talk) 12:54, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Sorry to respond so late. I moved in October, so for a while, my time here has been limited to essential updates. I saw the discussion in question and was disappointed by the decision that was made. My understanding thereof is that Wikipedia's policies about naming conventions in reference to incorporates entities such as the Church's established name and the fact that "The" in the name thereof is capitalized in reliable sources should mean that we stick with the conventions relating to those mentions. I wish I understood more fully why the status quo was acceptable for so long, but in recent years we've seen more of these types of discussions leading to outcomes supported by editors who, up until recently, had not been involved in such discussions. Frustrating! I have one or two editors I know of whom I've been able to consult with on problems like these, so I'll try to remember to seek their in advice on this latest situation and see if they know of anything that might help. Thanks. Jgstokes (talk) 08:02, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Peace Dove

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, peoples rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension.
Happy Holidays. ―Buster7  20:51, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your kindness and thougt that went into what you shared above. I have greatly enjoyed these 15-some-odd years as Wikipedia editor doing his best to work with many ohers, including you, towards constructive and acceptable resolutions thereunto that will continue to improve Wikipedia content in the years ahead. The world's been a little nuts lately, with so much craziness going down. My prayer for you and yours this season is that you all may be protected in everythig you undertake. Keep up the great work here, and thanks again!

Re "The" in links to LDS name

Re this undo's edit summary, you are not mistaken that the name of the Church as shown here is a wikilink to an article that uses the capital "T". But where you say Based on my understanding of wikilinks, the first letter of any article is always capitalized, that's not the case. E.g. if you write about a pineapple in the middle of sentence, you don't capitalize it, even though the article title is Pineapple. The particular case of initial "The" in names of institutions is covered at MOS:THEINST, and recently re-affirmed for the LDS at an RFC at WT:MOSCAPS. Cheers. Jmjosh90, thanks for the invite. As you might have seen, I accepted it. I've worked with Rachel Helps (BYU) on articles relating to the Church before, and it will be good to work with both of you on this project. Would it be problematic if I extended an invitation to a few other editors I know here who might similarly be assets to the new project? I can give you or Rachel the list of names I have in mind, but I figured there's no harm in asking. Thanks. --Jgstokes (talk) 00:11, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I just want to clarify that I am not one of the organizers of the BYU Wikiproject, but I am happy to support their work. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 16:38, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Go for it. Anyone who can help is welcome!

Temple status field

I noticed in Richmond Virginia and other recent temple templates, you place a reference in the status field. The field is used by other templates such as Template:LDSmap and cannot support referencing. Most LDS Temple/ fields can support referencing, but the status field cannot. Thanks! - Dmm1169 (talk) 12:37, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I'll keep that in mind. Jgstokes (talk) 23:04, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yigo Guam Temple

Going along with topic of #Temple status field, the Yigo Guam Temple was given a status that was not recognized. One must match a phrase specifically listed in Template:LDSmap, otherwise it will be given the default icon instead. Other statuses can be added to the template if needed, but I believe "Closed for repairs" would still fall under "Closed for renovations". I put the "Closed for repairs (due to flooding)" in the notes section. Notes do appear on the extended templates (infobox for each temple page, LDS Temple list2-used for state/country pages). Dmm1169 (talk) 10:03, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dmm1169, I apologize for adding a status that was unsupported by the template syntax. Interestingly, Yigo Guam is not the only temple that will have a unique situation that is not currently covered by the template. The Yigo Guam Temple is closed for repairs, but my understanding is that the Church doesn't count it as a temple undergoing renovations. The same is true for the upcoming closure for the Toronto Ontario Temple. In both of these cases, the Church is using the skills of local members to perform the necessary labor, which eliminates the need to have a rededication for both temples. Is there any way we could add to the allowed fields for such anomaly situations? We'd probably have to add a new field anyways for the Anchorage Alaska Temple since the new edifice will be built while the current temple remains open. Just my thoughts. Thanks again. Infobox television

Re your revert on The Voice (American TV series): [1] - there is no |Coaches= parameter in {{Infobox television}}. You can't just make up parameters that don't exist. So the choices are to either leave it with the valid param of |judges= or remove it altogether. ButlerBlog (talk) 13:12, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There should be such a parameter. They have been coaches all along. It's not my fault an incorrect parameter and term has been used this whole time, so the onus is not on me to fix it. If you can produce one source that refers to them as judges, that parameter can stay as is. But since all cited sources about the show refers to them as coaches, that needs to be corrected. And that's not my responsibility. Wikipedia always goes by what the sources say. And all sources call them coaches, not judges. I trust you'll take the appropriate action. Thanks for reaching out. LDS style guide?

You complained about my remark on the talk page Talk:Name of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Maybe you were justified. Since I found no link to a WP style guide, I am asking you to provide that link. I'm posting here to make sure you see my request. Thank you for helping. Zaslav (talk) 23:51, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you meant Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Latter Day Saints, then I found it from a previous section of this page. Thanks. Zaslav (talk) 23:56, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
