Lek and Swedish

Lek is also an English word, still in use in the north, meaning the play of children or the playing of an e.g. footballer. Foiled circuitous wanderer (talk) 08:03, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, that must be a survival from Viking times (Old Norse) so not 'Swedish'. Quite a few such words like 'quinie' are recorded from the North-east. 'Lek mating' on the other hand is a borrowing from Zoological Swedish, quite a different route. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:14, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
